Rode Vilas Co Sat/Sun am and it was awesome......St Germains trails early Sunday morning were unreal ( almost the best of the year)....sad it's over now..... we had about 4 inches of new snow Friday night and that new snow gave us two days of great riding.... time to put the sleds to bed and enjoy summer.

knocked out about 400 miles between Friday afternoon and all day Saturday, based out of white pine. Did multiple loops between baraga, sidnaw, Houghton and ontongen. Overall, 100 miles were great, 200 fair to poor and 100 ok. Just too much traffic and surgary snow to do much with. We even followed a groomer and couldn't even tell. Can't blame the folks up there for not trying. Part of me wished I hit some of northern WI instead. Maybe would have hit more bare spots, but better overall riding. Ended the year with 1321 miles. For a working stiff with 2 young kids and poor snow, I will take it.

Great overall. Rode 8 days out of the last 2 weeks. 4 days out of Watersmeet and 4 days out of Wetmore for a total of around 1800 miles in the 8 days.....Puts my yearly total over 3000 mi.

Ended the season Sunday on a good note. My wife and I rode MN NSST 70 miles Saturday morning from Two Harbor's to Tofte MN. We were cursing and praying.

Cursing the state for not grooming Friday night as their web site updates proposed and all the racer want to be's chewing up the trail and spraying rocks and snow on my wife after already passing me and being communicated that there were more riders still coming in my group.

Praying that the state groomed Saturday night because good snow remained, temps were still below freezing overnight and we had to ride back to the drop off point in Two Harbors.

Our prayers were answered. We left Tofte at 7AM and rode first tracks for 25 miles and minimal tracks the remaining 50 miles back to the truck. The start of the day the trails were well setup although by the time we finished at 1030 the sun & temps were softening the based.

Great last day of the season for us and happy for the adventure and content to put the sleds away.

The off trail fire roads and power lines might last a bit longer in the northern portions of the western UP. There was 3-5 ft of snow in the woods. Trails will suffer though.

I know Kip at Pat's has told us this is the time of year he gets out after the trail riders quit coming up.

My first ride looks to be the last now. Planned on a mid March return, but not looking so good now. 3rd week in Jan was as good as it gets, except for the over burden traffic. Snowed so hard at times on 3 days, made it difficult to ride safely at times. oh well, BE HAPPY!!!!

Two half days, and one full day, for 335 miles. Hard for the miles to compete with the smiles.

Back ground is the spill way at Kettle Falls. That's looking South into Canada. I think that's the only place, in the USA, where you need to go south to go to Canada.

My son and I rode from our house in Cloquet up to our cabin in Finland on Friday afternoon. Trails around Duluth were awesome and then the NSST was good until abut Hwy 2 north of Two Harbors. Then it got pretty bumpy the rest of the way. The wrost part was it started to sleet and we had to stop every mile or so to clean the ice off the goggles.

Then on Saturday we rode up towards Isabella and then rode forest rds the rest of the day. The little bit of the trail we rode was OK but I was getting tired of all the people blowing our doors off to pass. I was with my wife and kids and we look back constantly to see if people are behind us.. We don't ride slow, probably running 45 on a 50 mph trail. Worst is we got passed by 2 guys about 100 yds before a stop sign. As we stopped at the stop sign to see if anybody else was coming their three buddies blew by us and right thru the stop sign without even slowing down. I'm not one to wish ill will on anybody but i wouldn't have minded seeing a DNR guy there right then. Reminds me of why we avoid trails as much as possible.

Lots of snow in the back country still. We are going to go up this coming weekend to run the back country again. Can't wait!
