OK have LOTS of bears in my area, had this HUGE male last few days dogging a female,
he is a monster of a black bear all of 600 lbs, just huge

he even took a nap while the female hid on my deck, as she isn't ready to give anything up yet LOL

and he was scared to come on the deck , so he took a nap waiting for her to come off!, she also had him playing Merry Go round, turning hot laps around the trailer,
she was always a half a lap a head of him, and his fat *** couldn't keep up/close the distance, upper 80's and sunny out, he was a huffing and a puffing like crazy!!
Poor guy!! just's wants a little lovin!
after all only once a yr for them poor buggers! LOL
spring time love is in the air here!

from MY experience with bears, they don';t like to be PET , but many will eat out of your hand just fine
its not a natural event of petting a bear in the wild, you end up getting your hand slapped trying
and don't ask me how I know this LOL!!

LOTS of bears here , 8 different one's so far this spring, from cubs to big em's like this guy!

Had 16 different one's last yr!

I'm pretty comfortable about bears, a ton of experience handling them, from tagging/trapping/releasing, to even crawling into there dens with them in it.
been rather active with bear handling over the yrs, so, this didn';t bother me at all!

distance was about 20ft , he didn't seem to care I was outside at all, all he wanted was HER.
and all she wanted was him to leave her alone LOL
when she came up on the deck I went inside, and she sat on my deck for about a 1/2 hr or so, while he took his nap, as he wasn't brave enough to come on the deck it seemed , after seeing me there??

she's a some what regular bear, been coming thru my yard for about the past 12+ yrs, had two sets of cubs over the yrs that I could tell its her, she just booted out her two cubs prior to hooking up with this guy

I was trying really hard to get a pic of its ear tag, as IF I could get the info off it, I can get info from the state
but even at 20 ft or so, I couldn't get a clear pic of it
best I could do was this,
just couldn't focus cam any better on it, plus he wasn't actually staying still> would have loved to have got it however!!
Maybe , will get another chance some day??
come fall is when I get the most bears here, as I have a ton of fruit tree's and they seem to show up in groups , most I had at once here was 9 LOL
from big to small, sucking apples and pears up like walking shop vac 's !!
and dropping fertilizer out the back side as they go!!

I used to have a cabin in N Sconnie, and had the bears coming up frequently during the summer as well. Stick an 8' 4x4 in the ground and smear some peanut butter on the top foot or so and you can see just how big they really are!

I use peanut butter on tree's to get to show the nieces and nephews flying squirrels here, and if the bears get here first, they will suck the tree's clean NO matter HOW high I put it

this window is 7'5" off the ground, this bear is VERY deceiving, he doesn't look at big as he really is, he can get his eye's above the window and look in at me watching TV LOL
so, he is close to 8 ft at the top of his ears if NOT slightly over

I have been heavy into bears for many many yrs, I have a very good True idea on there weights and judging them, for so many yrs of being about them in so many ways
the above bear I started this tread on is a LOT bigger than this one at my window!!

and here is a flying squirrel and a deer, as I am guessing most folks never seen a flying squirrel before, there nocturnal, and very light sensitive and spooky critters!

a better pic of the cultipacker too ,

and will throw these 2 in just cause I had them handy, and I think cool pic's

thios one is NOT from my yard but one I was sent in an email, but I have the samed bird feeder on same like set up, to date ONLY one female bear as figured out how to get to it, she will use the pulley system and grab the line and walk backwards till she can then reach it, never Broke the feeder , as its normally empty by dark when she likes to show up, so nothing ever in it when she gets to it LOL

My raccoon's and squirrel's are NOT this smart HAHA!

Black Bears are big racoons to me very shy. All these Alaska TV shows there is a Black Bear close by we have to kill it is made for TV BS! Brown Bears are another matter I would not mess with them.

Yeah, the flying squirrels are pretty cool too. You can walk right up to them, if they don't think you see them. Once they land on a spot, and if you want to get a close up view/pic, walk from side to side slowly honing in on their position on the tree, and you can literally get within a few feet, arms length, before they decide you are too close. If you walk straight at them, they bolt immediately.

flying squirrels here are super spooky, and nervous, they will not let you get any where near them, every little sound shadow or movement makes they go up a tree, just other squirrels soaring back and forth will have them going nuts up and behind tree's

BUT when I put the peanut butter on a tree, they will be super brave OR dumb, as if a bear is there licking the peanut butter off a tree, they will almost climb into the bears mouth to get it, very tempting faith I say
the bears seem to get spooked by them and will back up and do that dog like tilt the head to look at them as if even they don't believe a little furry critter would get so close to its mouth,
I have even seen them LAND on the bear, and that scares the crap out of the bear when they get dive bombed from unknown's , really startles them and UP the tree or they do a MAD dear out run for 20-30 ft and then stop and look back to see what the heck happened!!LOL

as for Black bears in AK< I am a firm believer that wilderness bears are totally different bears than rural bears
wilderness bear has a much harder life, and food is a LOT harder to come by, they don't get the same sence of what humans are , and as such can be MUCH higher risks for issue's and dangerous

but to be honest, any bear that isn't scared of you to the point they try to leave is one that is of concern, and could be a issue.
all WILD animals should have the instint to get away from human contact

some bears YES and other anuimals will grow used to habits of humans, and tolerate and adapt to our movements and presence , but there still wild anumals and as can be unpridictabe and such dangerus, as almost all animals have some sort of defence.

even small animals can hurt you
just try sticking a small cat into a bucket of water LOL
and see how many scratches you end up with!
as animals get larger, the damage they can do is crazy, there muscles are not like ours, they have strengths that can amaze you!!
Black bears are responsible for more human attacks than any other bears, BUT IMO< its simplly a numbers game, there are 100 times more black bears in the world that other bears, so of couse, stsatic's would show what if more likley , when they live in more places??
wouldn' t want any bear to attack me,very powerful animals
but I don't think any of the bears in MY area think I am food or a threat so I don't worry about being attacked, as MOST bears avoid us humans due to we STINK to them!!
