sled LEDs

They may be good for a cross country race as in this case, but they are big and ugly, wouldn't want them on my sled. I have LED headlights standard from the factory and love them!

Question for all you LED users. I heard that LED's do not get hot, and people say that the lens will get covered with snow? Any truth to that? I know many sleds have the standard halogen bulb with a LED strip below from factory just wondering?

I have a Pro S, and I can say the factory LEDs do not have hardly the distance as an incandescent bulb. THIS is the only complaint I have about this machine. I have data to prove this. It is a simple hand held LUX intensity detector. I have installed a 20" light bar with combination spot and flood light on my machine and now the distance is phenomenal. I have taken data from my 2011 IQ and compared it with the 15 Pro S, while the up close intensity is off the chart on the Pro S, it drops off dramatically at about 20 -30 feet out, where the data from the '11 shines more intense.

Where did you mount a light bar of that size on the sled? Where did you pull power from? AC or DC power. Do you have any pics

LED's do not generate heat and the snow can pile up. But I never had the issue from riding, lets say from snow dust. They have snow on them when it was either snowing heavy out, or from boondocking. A quick stop and wipe with the hand and you are good to go.

I had 2 bulb set on my last sled for a little extra distance. What I really liked about these, the way I wired them up, when the machine was shut off, I could still keep these on. So when looking at maps for example at night, all the machines could be off, you can hear each other and look at the map at ease. Also, the other benefit is the lights stay on when the is an issue on the trail so others can see you. We blew a belt a few trips back and with the flick of my led light switch, at least had some level of safety.

My guess is that these are racers in the Iron Dog race. Think about it, two identical sleds, same team number, paint and a bazillion sponsors.. They NEED that kind of light to run all night..

IMAG2981.jpg sorry, its a 12" LED bar combination spot and flood light, AUXBEAM brand from Amazon, around $40. I do admit it is ugly, but the usefulness of this light for distance seeing at night far outweighs the ugliness..

hence the reason why I want one on me sled dare WATSON....LOL

I made a harness direct from the battery, through a lighted toggle switch on the handlebar, and a relay up front by a bumper mount bolt for a ground. I used a light bar mount, bar mount for a 7/8" bar I think. I have the ultimate Polaris front bumper, which uses round stock instead of the stock bumper oval shape cross section.

Have a 2017 Switchback Assault & so far I like the lights. Sure every once-in-awhile you might need to wipe off the crusty snow on the lenses but it comes right off & it's not like you have to do it all the time. Lights seem nice & bright to me. I usually have my high beams on at night but go low beam when passing other sleds or coming into town. So far I am pro-LED's.
