Triton Xt10 VR101 wiring problems

This weekends trip got cancelled Friday night when trailer lights went out about 30 miles from home. Replaced trailer to truck plug at tollway oasis, and no luck, so hardwired trailer to truck. Still no luck also, so thought issue was in truck harness. (Forgot the tool kit, so that was all that could be done with a hunting knife and duct tape.) Back home to try with buddies truck, repaired truck to trailer connector and it worked. For about 5 minutes, then out again.

Found corrosion at the harness connection at back of tongue. Replaced that today, and still no trailer lights. We do have power from truck through to the first harness connection point at back of tongue, but nothing after that.

Stumped at this point. Thinking about replacing the entire wiring kit in the trailer (it is a 2002 model) rather than chasing down which 15 year old wire might be corroded and causing a ground problem, and then might as well replace lights and upgrade to LED's, as wiring connections to lights are getting corroded also.

Also going to replace tires and rims ($125), and bearings ($75) as well. Debating whether to put this much into the trailer, or springing for new trailer which is not really in the budget.

I know this is a pretty common trailer, so has anyone run into similar wiring problems?

Went the full replacement wire and light replacement route. A thanks to Hanna RV in Oak Creek, Wisconsin for great help on the phone and quick free delivery. Easier than I thought it would be, and trailer should now be ready for another 15 years.

You cancelled because of no lights? As soon as you get into WI trailer lights are an option. Can't count high enough to as many times I've run up with no trailer lights.

I agree ground issue's most likely here
BUT a whole new wiring harness is NOT very costly, MAYBE 20 bucks if that on E bay, if you wanted to re wire the whole thing(not hard either)
way cheaper than buying a new trailer

Entire new harness was $74 through Hanna RV.

Yeah we cancelled because of no lights. We also stop at stop signs and ride on the right side of the trail. Safety first.

it doesn't have to be a TRITON wire harness, I re did the wires on my 8.5x 10 open deck trailer two yrs ago, even added new submersible LED lights, all for under 70 bucks>

I am sure if you shop about they can be found cheaper too

its NOT hard to do either, take a little time that's all to be honest!

BUT odds are all you need to to is clean up your grounds now, unless you have damaged wiring!

You might have missed it in earlier post, but replacement is done already. I am sure there was a scraped wire somewhere, not worth my time trying to chase it down considering all the wiring is 15 years old.

Gladly paid the extra for factory standard wiring with all molded plugs rather than making my own with ebay cheapo generic wiring kit.
