Hate theives!!

Had a riding day from **** yesterday. Made it to my buddies cabin. He is a bit off the road and got stuck getting to his cabin. Tried to shovel it out for about an hour. Unhooked the trailer, and all that helped with was to get the truck more stuck. Decided we should go grab his father in laws tractor which wasn't too far away. The battery was dead. Decided to put that on a charger and we will get the truck and trailer unstuck after our ride on the sleds. Took off from the cabin. Trails were good where their was snow, but a few bare spots. Made it 17 miles and felt some serious friction in the skid. Stopped and could see both my back wheels where shot. Bearings were gone and wheels were falling apart. Took the sled and put it in the woods a bit. Jumped on my buddies sled (btw - an axis is not really a good 2 up) and we made it back to the cabin within 20 minutes or so. Tractor was not charged yet to get the truck and trailer out, so grabbed the Honda side by side. That machine was pretty amazing, pulled the trailer out with a little bit of work. Did some more shoveling and pulled the truck out as well. Back on the road and to the sled in less than 2 hours.

That is when I discovered some low life scum stole everything off my sled. An extra fleece, north face vest, extra belt, all my tools, flashlight, klim gloves, neck warmer, klim balaclava, castle googles, tow strap, and jumper cables. I figure everything said and done, about $550 worth of gear. They only thing I can hope for is some of my flu germs are still residing on my balaclava and he dies a slow painful death from the flu. Man I hate thieves!!

I will offer a reward if you help me find my gear.

My first thought....just the complete opposite of the Instant Karma thread.

Stealing from someone's broken down sled, disregarding their possible need of assistance.

Man, there's a place in the after-life for people that do this sort of thing. And the sooner they get there, the better.

sjb, good luck with a reward but sometimes we just have to cut our losses and move on.

I just don't understand that, I would have to say 99 percent of sledders are good guys. I ride with about 20 buddies at times and I can tell you we would give the jacket off our back and parts off our sled to a fellow sledder if it would help them. They will get theres.

On warm days I leave everything short of my shirt, pants and wallet hanging on the sled when i go in....key is in the slot as well.

Even the best prepared can end up having a bad experience. I've run out of gas when the gauge said I had plenty, things break, people get hurt, some days it just goes against you.... My take-a-way is the thief new the sled was disabled and instead of trying to assist and seek out the rider, he stole the gear. And that's just wrong on every possible level.

Except you have zero facts to back you up yet you willingly glom onto giving snowmobilers a bad name in the process.
I will never agree with this line of thinking.
The best prepared don't show up here whining about what "happened" to them....victims....so many victims.

I get to my buddies place and it ain't plowed out.....end a story...so you didn't even have the forethought to talk about the conditions getting IN?.... victims...self created victims...LOL

I was just reporting what a top weather dude in Chicago was calling for.

Ill prepared? No, I think I'm pretty decent in that department. The only thing I struggle with is building the perfect tool kit for sledding. There's only so much room in the vehicles and I don't like bringing the good stuff with in case of THIEVES.
