Cant remember what post it was on but thought John had chimed in that there were breakdowns of 2 groomers in the area and that those issues were now resolved and that they were also training new groomer drivers and that there was limited times they could do so, but sounded like issues were resolved, Im sure the lack of real rideable snow side stateside has also greatly increased traffic especially coming off of a holiday weekend.
Totally unrelated regarding trail 13 different club and Lenny will know what’s up for sure. JD was talking about the Keewee

Hey Lenny, never want to bash about grooming but any idea why trail 13 from Twin Lakes to Pats is not being groomed? Usually one of the best trails around but terrible on Thursday and looked like it wasnt groomed in weeks if at all this year, plenty of snow and didnt really see any water problem issues, thanks Lenny , had an awesome 3 day ride other than that.

I was up last weekend. We went on 13 saturday afternoon from twin lakes to greenland and saw the groomer on the twin lakes side coming out. The greenland side was not touched though. They might of not touched it recently bc of the warm up.

The Superior snowmobile club splits 13 up, I believe the turn around spot is the Sleepy River bridge.

It’s supposed to be groomed Monday Wednesday and Friday but it was not groomed Wednesday or Friday but was groomed Saturday. This is kind of an inherent problem when you have a volunteer operator staff. If you guys can’t go out for whatever reason then it doesn’t get done and it’s hard to find somebody to fill-in. Also, the average age of our crew is 65+ and they’re in bed by the time they’re supposed to be going out. The trail gets groomed while traffic is still tearing it up so the effectiveness is severely compromised. We need a change but like I said, the changing of the guard is a sensitive issue. I’m sure I’ll be viewed as a disrespectful loudmouth just for saying what I’ve said so far but I really don’t care anymore. Each year I say it’s my last year because it seems like it’s a losing battle but what’s a guy to do? All the people are extremely nice but we need that machine out as often as the DNR will pay it to be out.

Thanks Lenny, that stinks because there are other areas that would kill to have that amount of snow to groom, including us as we sit here with 2 Tractors with tracks that are both only a couple years old and cant get enough snow to groom.

Our club recently subscribed to an phone app that will show when our groomers have been out. I think it was a bad idea and given time, it will be a nuisance Because of the reasons that I posted in my above comments. So if you really want to know when our groomers actually groomed, get the app. Check the superior snowmobile club website as the info for the app may be there.

Way to call it like it is!!! This is serious stuff. Business and mother nature must drive the system, not "when available." Thx for the call.

Seriously, it’s working as well as a volunteer system can work. Until something changes things will remain the same. I’m not pointing a finger at anyone person of our club, it’s just the way it’s always been and than combine it with poor weather conditions and you got a mess. If I was in charge of the operation under they same current system, things would not improve. The only way to make it better now is more help. We’re lacking, last I heard one guy at each location of our club and some of us groom 2 times a week! Maybe someone here can help recruit?

My thanks to Jerry, Art, Lenny, and all other groomers in that area. They do a tremendous job considering the conditions and the lack of help. They deserve a lot of credit for a fine job!

Sunday night 13 was decent, todays snow sure helped.

The snow looks to be a little short as to what was forecast to be up there fuji. Looks as if you and slimcake picked the best time as a little snow continuing as the week passes

The system needs to change in my opinion. Do you think if the clubs/state offered to pay operators $15-20/hr that you would have a problem finding people to sign up? Obviously training would be necessary but I would think that would solve your recruitment process.

Where would this money come from? Seems to me that there's not really a surplus of money

Groomers are paid in WI but didn’t solve our recruitment problem in northern WI. Who wants to get up and groom at 2am for 15to20 bucks an hour for a couple of hours a shift. Most participants have a horse in the race a resort or restaurant/bar rental properties.
