Just got the last kid off to college. My son Trent is going to Montana Technical university, MTU, for Civil Engineering Technology. We took him out there and he started orientation on the 18th and after a couple of days with him in Butte, MT my wife and I headed up to Glacier NP area for 4 days. I have never seen such beautiful country. The first day we went up to Many Glaciers Lodge and hiked back to the Grinell Glacier. What a great hike! Then the next day we did Going to the Sun road. Wow! Thats such a beautiful area of the country, if I could live there I'd be there in a heart beat.<img src="https://forum.johndee.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=63279&amp;stc=1" attachmentid="63279" alt="" id="vbattach_63279" class="previewthumb"><img src="https://forum.johndee.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=63280&amp;stc=1" attachmentid="63280" alt="" id="vbattach_63280" class="previewthumb"><img src="https://forum.johndee.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=63281&amp;stc=1" attachmentid="63281" alt="" id="vbattach_63281" class="previewthumb"><img src="https://forum.johndee.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=63282&amp;stc=1" attachmentid="63282" alt="" id="vbattach_63282" class="previewthumb"><img src="https://forum.johndee.com/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=63283&amp;stc=1" attachmentid="63283" alt="" id="vbattach_63283" class="previewthumb">

Beautiful and thanks for sharing! GNP has been on my bucket list for around 40 years now!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful trip to glacier and now that you’re empty-nesters that’s great, it’s interesting that you posted this thread, I was in glacier national Park exactly 20 years ago to the day backpacking and camping there, you had to watch a video to make sure that you didn’t cause any problems for bear encounters and what to do if confronted by a bear, it was a great experience, a lot of the park was closed due to forest fires so we were on the east side, we flew out of Missoula on Sept 4, exactly 1 week before the Sept 11 bombings

We did see a grizzly bear on the trail back from Grinnell Glacier. Pretty cool.

Great pics! Having been there when I was young growing up with my family, I need to go back as an adult! Enjoy the house to yourselves!

First time I was there was on July 5th. It was the first day they opened Going to the Sun road that year. My advice, don't go too early in the summer.

Well it's funny. As soon as we got back my daughter came home from Madison. Just for a visit though and today she's heading back. Great to have them visit but they can always leave again! We'll see how it is for just the two of us.<br><br>And gotta be honest, we spent a little bit of time one day out there looking at real estate. Love to buy some land now and build on in 3-4 yrs when we call it quits but it is expensive out there.

No! No! Don't have him go into Civil Engineering. It is a disaster in the field and only getting worse. (Speaking from 30+ years if experience.)
