    Percent split

Hi John I am not sure if this questions makes sense, but here goes. Of the snow that falls in the N tier (say the UP, or Northern Lower pen. of Michigan etc) what per cent of the snow is born from LES vs what percent is generated from systems that sweep across the region (say systems that kick...

    Towing in the Rockies

So this Friday we take off for our first ever two week camping trip: Rocky Mountain NP, Grand Teton and Yellowstone. As we will be pulling our 26' travel trailer thru the mountians for the first time I am worried a bit. I had the 1/2 ton truck prep'd by checking brakes, rear axle fluid...

    Fireplace insert

Debating again if i should spring for a fireplace insert and get away from the heataltor fireplace that does more harm than good in terms of heating the house. What I am looking at now is the quadrafire 2700i insert that goes inside the firebox of the current fireplace, but the cost is pretty...

    Kindle

I am looking at getting the Kindle ereader from Amazon. I have a bunch of long trips coming up and instead of packing several lbs of books I thought I'd give this a try. Just wondering if anyone has any pros or cons about it?

    UP Grouse hunting

Can anyone give a hunting report for this year so far on grouse? Headed to Marquette co. the 16th for a cast-n-blast trip - just wondering if I'll see many (or any?) birds . . .thanks much

    Muck Rake

Does anyone have any good or bad results with using muke rakes on the lake bottom? I have heard that with a so-called muck rake you can get a soft lake bottom area close to shore to firm up with some work. The lake we are on is a little soft when away from the dock. Thanks

    Camper mouse

I spent the better part of Saturday cleaning up from the mouse that got inside the camper. I was lucky to have found where he was getting in and out (a nice big hole in the floor where the wires come in from the frame) and such used a little bit of Great Suff foam to close the gap. Does anyone...

    New wood fireplace

My wife and I are considering replacing the original Heatilator fireplace (which puts off little heat - even with the blower on) with a newer high efficiency insert or fireplace. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience in how much their gas bill was been reduced by using the newer wood...

To Winterize a cabin or not...

Just wondering for those that have a cabin that is used semi frequently (one weekend per month) during the winter (like us) - do you winterize it after every use or just turn the water off and keep the heat on? My definition of winterizing is to completely drain the water system, use a...

    Home weather Stations

Hi John, I remember posts in the past about home weather stations here, I just can't remember any details. Do you have any suggestions for a home weather station brand (I have a La Crosse right now, it is not holding up so well). Seems that the on-line reviews for Oregon's are not so good...
