New marine battery wont fully charge.

I had a new marine battery put in my sea doo sportster boat. It starts fine now, but when I plug in the maintainer to charge it fully, it stays in the red light area after a day plugged in. Is this normal? I have a battery maintainer on it.

So new batteries need to be charged a bit? I thought they would be ready to plug and play. That is what dealer said. It is an Interstate marine battery.

Try a regular battery charger, charge for a couple hours. Measure the battery voltage with a meter after charger is disconnected. Maybe your battery tender is junk leading up to you original battery failure. A fully charged battery should read well over 12volts

I will wait one more day, it has been on for 2 days now and still is red. Maybe the maintainer was not installed correctly. The cause of the other battery failure was I left on the bilge pump for a week. When I covered the boat, it must have turned on the switch. Now what I do is turn off the electrical switch after each boat ride.

So typically if the new battery was not brought to its full charge before installing it and using it, it will probably never come to a full state of charge

I think the battery maintainer is not working. I pulled it off the boat after 2.5 days and put it on my sled in garage (which has a new battery from last year in it) and it did not charge either overnight. The light on maintainer stays red. I looked at new maintainers and none seem to have the black "plug in" cord anymore. The new ones have red and black prongs that you place on top of the battery. Why is that?

I have one similar to the one in the middle with the plug in cord.

There is definitely something wrong with the battery tender. You may be able to purchase one with a quick connect ring terminal for it or purchase that separately. I have a Schumacher battery tender & it actually came with both the battery clamps & the quick connect. I bought it from M&M Powersports it's been good to me for 4 years now, maybe you could find one like it at a dealer near you.

Get a NOCO or Battery Tender maintainers. Both reliable brands, around $30, and you can get any kind of connector that you need.
My Harbor Freight maintainers about 10 years ruined several batteries, switched to NOCO.

Will a new maintainer work with the ring connectors that are already on the two batteries? Or do I need new connector rings as well?

Unhook charger for second then the hook it back to battery....sometimes that LED doesn't always change over to green for whatever reason.

NOCO makes all the different style connectors. It will come with the alligator style but directly through NOCO or Amazon you can purchase different size rings, wire extensions, ports etc.. Their website is difficult to load (I run Apple products, Microsoft might be different results). Go to Amazon and “view the NOCO Store” to see the various accessories.

I got a new battery maintainer for $15 from Menards (Performax). It charged the marine battery to full charge overnight. I did not have to change the terminal circle cord, it plugged right in.

It charged my sled battery to green in about 2 hours. is on my sled.

BatteryMINDer is my go to brand. I have one that has been plugged in 24/7 for the past ~20 years, used on multiple different batts, still going strong.

How much would it cost to rebuild or buy a brand new sea doo engine for a sea-doo sportster 155 jet boat?

They dont jet boats make them no more.I have 250 hours on my boat and really like it , and want to keep driving it till the boat needs a new engine....
