It can't be traffic, can it? I mean, back in the day when the snow was flying, there was a few thousand of us on here every hour. Now, there's just a handful of us.I'm not sure it's traffic oriented as I have seen the guest count in the 500 to 600 range and it was working fine. There has been issues for the past week where the discussion board has been unavailable for a few days at a time. The google popup ads have been absolutely overbearing, even worse on a mobile device, perhaps that in itself has something to do with site availability? Nonetheless, glad to have it back.
Allow me to vent. Not sure what you consider "back in the day" but this website was upgraded a few years ago because the original could no longer handle the volume of traffic. I suspect our numbers have decreased due to no longer posting weather forecasts, etc. The current issues are another matter and likely have affected traffic too. But I can assure you there is more than a "handful" of interest. I see the numbers each day and they're in the thousands, not hundreds or less.It can't be traffic, can it? If I sound a little sensitive to this, I am. This has been an on-going problem and frankly I don't have the solution. Someone does, but I don't!
Until that someone comes up with a solution, we're in a holding pattern. Nuff said!
Agree with you on your analysis, I am on Thursday morning at 7am.Checked the board at about 2:50 am central time Wednesday morning. There were 669 users on line and 1 member me. Checked the Robots tab and there were 4 pages of them (not sure if that is the max that can be displayed). Some of the Robots were reading Member Profiles on specific members. Went back about 25 minutes later at about 3:15 am and the site was down.
Been checking back periodically. Could not get back on until 12:35 am Thursday morning. Hard to believe there would be that many people on the site at that time. I think about 10 years ago when the site was in its prime we were trying to get to 500 users for a record. I think we must be inundated and and infiltrated by something. Hope that helps.
Hi Gary, I certainly didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. When I say ""back in the day", obviously I meant before John's passing. At any given hour, there would be a few thousand people on here (hourly). As I type, there are 282. Hence, my comment about it not being related to traffic. I was only stating that whatever the issue is, it can't be related to volume/traffic, and is no way a complaint or personal attack against anyone. I remember John addressing traffic and ad issues. I've been here since the very beginning, and I hope that we all stay here. If I had a solution, I would offer it, but IT is not my thing. I am grateful that I'm able to still communicate with this community. That being said, wishing you and all the people on here a happy holiday season.Allow me to vent. Yeah, I'm back on this morning for the first time in a couple of days. It seems like we had this issue some time ago and it was eventually corrected but has now resurfaced. Given the numbers, it doesn't seem like it should be a loading issue but who knows what the bots are up to.I digress, I think the pop up ads have taken over the site. But it has allowed me access twice today which is positive!
Likewise, have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
