    Nov16

While I haven't been to our cabin in Finland since last weekend a neighbor has reported he has 24" on the ground and it's still snowing like mad. Supposed to snow thru tomorrow morning. And while thats great, the trails that go through swampy areas and the creeks and swamps we like to play in...

    TKI Belt Drive conversion

Me too! I wish I could run two sleds side by side and compare the difference but I'll have to rely on my shaky memory to compare. People that have done it though say they really notice it and like it.

    TKI Belt Drive conversion

Its a 2021 Polaris 850 SKS. It has reverse, all new sleds have the PERC reverse which is just the engine spins backwards instead of the old gear style reverse options.

    TKI Belt Drive conversion

I did. Heated the crap out of it without melting the belly pan. First one came out well but the bottom one, augh. Even broke the handle on the easy out.

    TKI Belt Drive conversion

So I'm not sure if anybody on this board has done this but I decided to install one of these belt drive kits on my 2021 SKS. For those not familiar with it what it does is remove the chain case, gears, and the chain and replaces them with pulleys and a belt. Pretty simple install other than one...

    John Dee's Seasonal Forecast

Good for you. We moved up here to the Duluth area 16+ yrs ago and like it. All the things you need from a city and 10 minutes to be completely in the wilderness. And phenomenal sledding up the shore. But now our kids have moved away, one in NYC and one in Montana, and we are getting close to the...

    What's New with You?

I bought a TKI belt drive conversion kit for my 850 SKS and am in the process of installing that. Looking forward to seeing the difference that makes if I could only get a stripped out torx head screw removed. What a PITA.

    Yellowstone Trip

I drove out last winter from Duluth to West Yellowstone. A perfect spot for me to stop on the way out was Billings. That was 12 hours and then I was meeting my son and friends at 11:00 the next morning to start riding. I've done the drive all night thing like 600RMK mentions and it sucks. That...

Trail 2 - Losing a section due to change of ownership

The new owners also own Lutsen resort and there is trails running right to the lodges and bars there. But the resort doesn't own the lodges or bars except for Papa Charlies. But you can ride up the edge of the road to Papa Charlies (at least I have). Of course the food is bad, the beer is warm...

    SnowTech Editorial Scary Snowmobiling Future

Boy, I'd sure like to disagree with you on this one. As much as I complain about my two kids from time to time they are both hardworking and chasing their dreams. My daughter just graduated college with a math major, IS minor and working in NYC as a Data Scientist/consultant who can't wait to...

    Who's Going???

So we have always camped across the hwy at the chicken coop campground and it's $100 for the weekend, $50 for a night. Yes it's expensive but its awfully simple to just walk across the street. We also have our dogs with so its a quick walk back to let them out for 10-15 minutes or to get lunch...

    Who's Going???

We were there both days. Bought a set of RMK a -arms for my son, he's tough on them. A new pair of boots for me, a few other things. I agree with the Blackstone griddles, my wife told me we need to get one also. Beer is cheaper on Sundays, only $5 then. You can always buy beer in the swaps...

    Who's Going???

We'll be there again. Probably my 30th year in a row and 25-26th with my wife. We'll be getting in Friday afternoon and camping at the Chicken coop with the same group we've camped with for the last 10+ yrs. Don't have anything real big to look for this year, maybe boots and another pair of...

Rising fuel costs hinder planned trips?

Heck no, I've got two kids I no longer am paying tuition for so I've got more free money than ever! Also my wife took a new job that pays more and is fully remote so instead of driving my truck everyday to work I drive her Subaru so instead of 15-17 MPG I get 33-35 MPG now. Thats actually a...

    Beware of Walmart Prices!

The one good thing about Wal mart though is delivery. My wife just puts the order in once/week and its all delivered to the house. The real dumb thing is if they don't have a item you ordered for delivery is that it'll usually show up the next day via UPS or Fed Ex. That's gotta be expensive for...

Goin-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park (Montana) to not be fully open by July 4 because of heavy snows.

The latest info is the earliest it will open is 7/13. One of the latest openings ever. We drove it last August and its an amazing drive. Both days weather at Logan Pass kind of sucked and it was cloudy and wet but still the views coming up from the west side were incredible. We also went up to...

    Rollover I-75 Southbound Gaylord Exit

I have a 1/2 ton and had my 20 x 8 trailer try to pas me on the freeway one time. End up facing southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway. Luckily no rollover and no damage to the sleds inside but I do tie down both front and rear bumpers on the sleds. There was some damage to the truck...

    West Yellowstone trip

We stayed at the Explorer cabins in town. Ours was a 2 bedroom, kind of expensive but originally my wife was coming with. For a group of 8 though I'd just start looking for Air BnB's or VRBO. We reserved ours in early Nov I believe. One thing that surprised us is we intended to do the tour of...

    West Yellowstone trip

A couple of them took some work. Should've brought the chain saw based on the # of trees we cut down for a couple of stucks.
