At first I thought it would just buff out but then I figured it maybe needed paint. It’s not always the case but more often than not I’m amazed at how well some of the parts on these old sleds have held up. Not only did these sleds put on some hard miles but a good share of them ended up...

Thanks guys, it’s good to at least get on the assembly scoreboard. Nasty weather out there tonight, good night to be in the shop with a warm fire and cold brewski. All the suspension pieces were ready to go, so it was time to get things put together. Skid assembly took a little more effort...

I guess I’m guilty of posting little things about a project but sometimes it’s the little things that get in the way of progress and you have to re-think your approach. After a frustrating, unsuccessful search for a rear shock, I decided to take a second look at the original shock. I had written...

Happy Birthday Mezz my friend. Getting older can have some challenges but the alternative is not so appealing either. Keep the positive outlook!

    Black Friday Aerial View

Ventured out to the local hardware store on Friday. Think there were 6 cars in the parking lot, which I guess could be considered a Black Friday rush. Bought a Nut Goodie, Diet Pepsi, and a can of tire foam, none of which were a Black Friday special.

    Speaking of past members

Think he maybe rode a lot in the Ontonagon area. Legend has it, he was pretty fast. He always rode with a guy he called Fuzzball (who turned out to be his brother). A few years back, his brother posted his obituary on here. Never forget the episode where his buddy’s Cat “coughed up a fur ball”...

I could be wrong but aren't you the guy that used to make the really entertaining WY sledding videos or am I thinking of someone else?

I guess the good thing about the skis is I can paint them and leave the loops chrome to see how they look and then decide about painting them. I’m hoping to use some T-Bucket street rod chrome shocks on the skis, should really add some pop. I used them on the Chaparral and they worked out well...

I catch up with Big Vin on FB every once in a while. He's happily performing in Nashville but obviously not doing much sledding. Another cool guy that doesn't post much any more is Bradzoo (although he did post something recently). Also, Snoluver1, haven't been able to get in touch with him...

    FR Nash

Well Said I was wondering myself, as it wasn’t like Mr. Nash to be away for such a long period of time. This is sad to hear and a real loss. It was kind of an honor to be “Nash’ed” and he dinged me pretty good a couple of times. I miss his razor-sharp barbs.

Kirk, it’s funny you should mention red ski loops. I’ve painted the loops on my TX sleds red, just seems like they should have come painted that way. As you know, the 73 TX models originally came with chrome skis, which deteriorated badly if they weren’t taken care of properly so mine will have...

Good to hear that you guys are on-board with the spirit of the project. Exploring some other idler wheel options is an interesting thought. For such a small thing, they’re a big part of the look of the sled. Think that when it’s all back together it will tell me the best direction to go...

    UP is getting pounded!

Yikes! That's a handful of issues. It's good that you can work on building strength again since you probably lost a fair amount of muscle mass with the weight loss. Continue to get well and keep us posted on your progress. Also, thanks for ensuring an epic snow winter :). So far it seems to...

Thanks Mark (y). The goal was to retain a little Polaris identity, rather than just a generic wrap. My wife is not a fan of it but then, her taste in everything, including men, has always been a little suspect. I have something I thought I’d run past you people. If this were a pure restoration...

    UP is getting pounded!

Looks like this is starting out to be one crazy winter. Seems like it's snowing everywhere and especially in the LES areas. Even over here in MN I'll be blowing the driveway for the second time tomorrow. I agree - bring it on!

This shop space hog is finally back together so out it goes and I can set things up to get some real work done. On the actual project front, I’ve been spending most of my time in Cleat-Land. Turns out I really needed 21 replacement cleats but I ended up pulling 25 off the donor tracks because...

My First Snowmobile was a .....

I got a kick out of your story about how much the old Johnson would pull. My dad also had a 67 Skee-Horse. It was well used when he bought it and it didn’t come with a seat so he built a bench seat and added a sofa cushion. It was like riding a couch and about the same size. He used to trap...

    Later the Flip!

I don't think we got as much snow as ND (or the wind) but I think it's flipped in northern MN. With the forecast temps over the next week or so, this probably isn't going anywhere.

Good one. No, I'm afraid the old Skee-Horse is too far gone. After 50 years in the woods it looks like a relic from a lost civilization.
