    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! We have a good snow cover this year so it really does seem more like Christmas. Hoping everyone has a fantastic Christmas and a great New Years.

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

Merry Christmas everyone 🎅🎄 Posting a little earlier than usual today since I’m knocking off early for Christmas eve. Things moved along fairly quickly once I got the sled off the table and onto the lift. This shot looks like a scene from a Cheech and Chong movie. It fired right up and seems...

    1990s-the-second-golden-age-of-snowmobiling

Interesting read and judging by the number of 90's sleds I still see in our area, there's a lot of truth to the article. While it's not rider forward, I still find the ride of my 2001 XC Deluxe with the Extra-12 rear suspension and Fox shock to be quite comfortable for any of the trail...

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

A few years ago, when John still had his red RMK, he had to do an engine rebuild on it and I remember him running some of the parts through the dishwasher. Normally I wouldn’t do this but it seemed to work for him and I thought the clutch would be a good candidate for the process. I did clean...

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

Gotta love the Silver Bullet. Beautiful sled and nicely done! Probably my favorite Ski Doo. Looking at the photo of your 400 SS again, I like that it doesn’t have the trim piece that goes around the hood scoop. Kinda gives it the look of the early Chaparral race sleds. If you do restore it, I...

    My final sunrise

Awesome lake shot Troy, I'm hoping you won't retire your camera. The empty desk says it all. By all accounts, you have prepared well for retirement and I have no doubt you will make the most of it. Congrats!

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

I didn’t get crazy on motor, just a general cleanup and painting a part here and there. It is sporting a brand-new set of mount bushings and I also switched the 77 motor plate that was on it to a 76 plate because the 77 plate won't work at all with the 76 chassis. I originally thought the...

    Anybody else having issues?

Yeah, I'm back on this morning for the first time in a couple of days. It seems like we had this issue some time ago and it was eventually corrected but has now resurfaced. Given the numbers, it doesn't seem like it should be a loading issue but who knows what the bots are up to. My ad...

    12-10 Snowfalls

Picked up about 6" yesterday with 25 - 40 mph winds. Whiteout conditions at times. -21 this morning, so it looks like we have a real winter for a change. Fishing should be good. Walleyes/Saugers are on fire right now. A friend and his buddy pulled up 60 in 4.5 hours the other day.

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

Thanks guys, it’s great to be back. That sure seemed like a long couple of days. They are nice running motors and I’ve had zero problems with mine. Scorpion did use them a lot. A friend of mine has three Scorps, all with CCW motors. They are beefy. I don’t think I could bench press one...

    12-10 Snowfalls

Picked up about 5" in Lake of the Woods county last week and have gotten 2 - 3" since, with a little more on the way next week. It's enough that they have been dragging the trails and expect them to start grooming next week. Think a lot of us are getting the sense that this may be a more...

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

There was mild profanity during the dash install. Except for the small console extension, it is all one piece and you have figure out what can be hooked up after it is in place and what needs to be hooked up before then. As they say, it builds character. Gary, it does look like a fuel gauge but...

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

Got enough done on the Chaparral this week to be able to fire it back up. Still runs and sounds good. The dash that came on the sled was kind of a hack job. The bottom half had been sawed off and it had no instrumentation, not even an ignition switch. The seller threw in an extra dash so the...

    Our Year in Pictures

Great post Gary! Very cool recap of the year in photos. I always enjoy the photos that people post and hope to see more as we move into a new year.

Strohs - It was fire brewed! This dash is stamped “110573”. Makes me think about the person that applied this stamp back in 73. I’m sure they had no idea that someone would run across this very stamp 52 years later.

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

I have been pushing hard the last few weeks. I’m literally out in the shop every day that I’m not working at the hardware store. My wife has suggested that I move out there but then, she makes that suggestion regularly, whether I’m working on sleds or not. I did do a test fit of the...

Chaparral vs John Deere: A Build-Off Challenge

A few more pieces added to the SSX. It’s getting a little crowded in the shop. Here’s one for you guys that are mechanically curious. I don’t think it’s unusual for motors to have dual vacuum pulse ports but the ports on this motor are 3/8” in diameter. Cripes, what were they planning to...
