    Skyview Lodge closed??

Living in Presque Isle for about 6 months a year, I have to defend it a little bit. I have been up there since 1989 and yes there were a lot of tree huggers that adamantly opposed ATV's. They lost that battle. The Presque Isle/Winchester Sno Bunnie snowmobile club is great. They have numerous...

    Skyview Lodge closed??

Thirty point opens at 10 am. Closed on Tuesdays. They also close mid-February for about a week because they have a side gig working the R/V show in Chicago.

    Black Friday gear sales?

Thanks Gary for the info. After seeing your post, I bought an Exome helmet. Replacing my gen 1 modular that I bought when I bought my 2003 MXZ. Probably long overdue not to mention the hits it has taken from those trees and poles that jump in front of me on the trail. Buying a second one for my...

    Skyview Lodge closed??

Skyview struggled over the last winter with new owners and closed in spring. It went up for sale late summer. They are asking more than a million for it, which IMO is insane. Sad because before we owned up there, we would always stay there starting back in the 80s when Adam Johnsons mom owned...

Anybody gearing up for the opener?

I had the itch last week after prepping the sleds with new plugs, gas, oil, and new batteries. Where I'm at in Presque Isle (WI) I can head out the back of my property and hit Ottawa forest roads in the U.P. which takes me up to Marenisco where I can catch the trails. I didn't go because I...

    Speaking of past members

I remember years ago there was a regular crew on the site and I think the thread was John Dee Family. Skylar, Big Vin, 1000, and a girl from Prior Lake Minnesota, Rev it Up ?? Are they still out there?

Trail 2 - Losing a section due to change of ownership

I hate to do an about face on this issue because I was vocal about the ski hill not being a good neighbor but new information has me reconsidering. My daughter was a part of all of the meetings and discussions between the ski hill owners and GRTA. She told me that the whole issue revolves around...

Funny adventures on our sleds from the past

When Gary in Neenah started the first sled thread it brought back a lot of funny memories from my youth on a snowmobile so I'm starting this one to hear other stories. In 1979 the Chicago area got hit with pretty big snowstorm that closed a lot down including schools, so I made the best of it...

    Building / Shop advice

When I did my research I was concerned about the screws leaking at some point in the future. That is why I went with the standing seam metal roof. No exposed screws. The sides of each panel are screwed to roof sheeting and the next panel overlaps it with a standing, (raised rib) seam and snaps...

    Building / Shop advice

I did my research this spring on metal vs. shingle and we went a metal roof on our house and garage in Presque Isle Wisconsin. Shingle roof was 22 years old. The house is 28 X 44, and the garage is 24 X 40. We went with 26-gauge snap lock standing seam on 17-inch centers with titanium...

When It's Time to say Goodbye

You are right Gary. Not a dry eye here. We are in same position with our third Rottweiler named Madison. She is 8 and I see the grey in her chin, the difficulty with stairs, and we are worried that the clock is ticking too fast for her. Thanks for sharing. Such a tough thing when it comes time...

What is your favorite UP ghost story or "haunted" location?

I had serious concerns about my investments when Old Joe snuck into the White House. I called my financial advisor with Edward Jones and he said the stock investments were long term. Don't worry. I get it but now I'm afraid to look at the statements because the "bleeding" just doesn't seem to...

What is your favorite UP ghost story or "haunted" location?

Hey matti, I just found a new ghost story/haunted location/eerie circumstance. It stretches from Park Ridge Illinois all the way up to Presque Isle Wisconsin. I looked at my investments, i.e. stocks, IRA's, deferred compensation plan, and other banking and interest statements. Seems a lot has...

What is your favorite UP ghost story or "haunted" location?

You were in the house before it burned? Like matti, I dont want to even go near it. I am not a believer in ghosts or spooks but there are a lot of things that cannot be explained by science or logic and I see no reason to tempt fate. My son and a friend of mine went there years ago to explore...

What is your favorite UP ghost story or "haunted" location?

Summerwind on the Cisco chain. A lot of unexplained stuff happened at that house that mysteriously burned down. None of the older locals want to talk about it and deny any knowledge of where it was. Ruins still remain but nature has pretty much taken it back.
