Labor Day Weekend! What are your plans?

They call it the last Holiday Weekend of the summer. Kind of sad to think the summer is coming to an end but I won't miss the heat, football season is here, and we're that much closer to the cool Autumn weather and eventually snow. I have the Smoker going today with Pulled Pork and a Carolina...

    1974 stingerette (scorpion) coils.

I seem to recall the Stingerette was marketed to the female snowmobiler with specific color and features that the ladies would be attracted to. (Remember, it's 1974. Very competitive with many mfrs. and anything to get an edge on the competition)

    The Garden Report: Hows Yours?

Neenah, Wisconsin: Lots of tomatoes, but no ripe ones yet, the plants are 5 feet tall and braced. Cucumbers are gigantic, we've made two batches of pickles thus far, 22 jars. Beans are mostly a failure, not sure why. Just not producing this year and the plants look healthy. Banana Peppers...

My Visit to the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Museum

And to wrap things up, here's the two machines that battled for the World Championship in 1971. Mike Trapp beat Yvon Duhamel with his 433cc Yamaha followed by Duhamel with the 800 Triple, Blizzard. I was just old enough to remember watching this race on TV and it was great to see these machines...

My Visit to the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Museum

The Skiroule is one of the first machines you see when you walk in. The Double Eagle was a Twin Engine beast designed for Land Speed Records.

My Visit to the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Museum

Just back from a week's vacation in Northern Wisconsin. One of our stops included the Snowmobile Hall of Fame near St. Germain. I've always wanted to see the place and when we found ourselves nearby, my wife who has no interest in snowmobiles, thought it'd be fine to stop for awhile. We/I spent...

    Hey, Y'all Watch This!

I'm glad to hear this turned out OK, could've been worse. Snowmobiling in June? 90 degrees in the shade? Really? TOWN OF ELDORADO — A 45-year-old man crashed his snowmobile Friday, injuring himself and his 8-year-old son. At about 8 p.m. authorities responded to an accident on Dike Road where...

Exhaust Springs...man I hate these things.

Size Matters I found this 24" Slotted Screw Driver in the bargain bin at Fleet Farm. I cut the two notches on the end and it works great for pulling and installing exhaust springs. The longer reach allows plenty of room outside the engine compartment and clear of any sharp edges.

    A Bump in the Night

Here's a story that's making a lot of local news in northeast Wisconsin today. Not sure what the noises are, could be related to the crazy warm weather, take your best guess. Here's the story from the Appleton Post Crescent. Clintonville explosions rattle Wisconsin city for second night...

Snowmobiled 2 weeks ago and golfed today!!

I had the same thought today. Two weeks ago we were snowmobiling in Price County, Wisconsin. Today the machine was stored for summer and I was riding bike with shorts and T Shirt. It's Bizarro World alright, March 18 and the lawns are turning green, perennials are coming up. What next?

Random Thoughts from a Cluttered Mind

OK, I understand. First off, you said you were considering the 600 E tec along with the 1200 4 Tec. On my first & last ride of this season my friend was on a 600 E tec. He logged 21 miles per gallon compared to my 16 miles per gallon on the 1200. This was typical trail riding probably averaging...

Random Thoughts from a Cluttered Mind

It's the end of the season for me. Heck, it never got started. Along about the middle of February I conceded the season lost. Then a late winter storm provided my first and last ride of the season with two weekdays of low traffic and groomed trails in northern Wisconsin. Outstanding! I believe...

    53 Years Ago today- Feb 22, 1959

I'm not much of a race fan but I found this blurb on the History Channel website and thought it worthy of passing along. Feb 22, 1959: Lee Petty wins first Daytona 500 On this day in 1959, Lee Petty defeats Johnny Beauchamp in a photo finish at the just-opened Daytona International Speedway in...

Have you tried the Thundershirt on your dog?

We'll here's a new one for me. Our dog was just in for her annual checkup last week and the vet suggested we try the Thundershirt for anxiety problems. Huh? I've heard of Thunder Cats, Thunderstorms, Rolling Thunder, but Thundershirt was a first for me. A little history. Our Yellow Lab started...

    Old Pictures

OK, I'll play along. Here's one from Christmas Day 1968. My brother and me with our shaggy mutt on our new Panther. Dad brought our first snowmobile home on Christmas Eve that year, a 1969 Arctic Cat. It had the Leopard Print seat, Slide Rail Suspension, Cleated Track and a 19 horsepower...

    Vintage Snowmobile Pictures #6

OK, the last one. I'm getting writer's cramp and eye strain... I've heard they called them Skunks because of the white stripe, it's a 73 TNT according to the signage. The Thundercat is next followed by the Manta, Motoski and Merc. Seeing these old machines bring back a lot of memories and fun...
