First let me say that I'm glad the trails were not opened prematurely. The snow that fell in southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois is going to set up so nicely if you just let it get cold and freeze. It'll make a great base that will last a long time based on the cool weather in the forecast...

With this cold spell it is time to start keeping an eye on the Illinois chain. I drove over the Fox River in McHenry yesterday and it was mostly open but starting to freeze up on the sides. Wonder how the ice is coming on the upper Lakes?

It's a real mixed bag. This morning I hit ungroomed trails with well over a foot of powder blowing over my head. Sometimes it was a pain is if you got towards the edge you hit more powder and you just got totally blind it as you were trying to make a difficult maneuver to get back on the trail...

Headed up to Twin Lakes tonight. Riding Friday and Saturday. Had a couple of cancellations so its just me. Staying at Krupps. Looking for riding partners.

I am hoping to come up Dec. 1. The trails don't open until then so I am not counting any snow there now or before Dec. 1. As it stands today, the forecast doesn't look great for riding on opening day. But, even John will tell you not to put a lot of stock in his forecast two weeks out...
