hey pole guru's need some help,took 03 edge 700 touring out for a spin tonight and heard grinding noise from left side of engine by primary clutch when driving at slow speed and lost speedo.cannot hear at idle only when acceling.alot of belt rubber on clutch sheeves.belt appears to be ok,parked last year and fine,3miles tonight and is was there,wife drove it first for 15 miles and then she told me,i drove it back 15 miles and noise there.any help would be great,thanks.

Lost speedo ? It's your driveshaft bearing. Not a guru but almost 99.99% sure that's the problem.

Well... my bud from work ( big poo fans ) has 2 (2004 0r 2005 ??? anniversary LE 's ) 600's and i remember him telling me that he was able to snake 1 off/on with-out pulling the shaft. He said there was just enough room to deal with the flange & nuts. He is every bit as clever as I am lucky so I would say it could be done. He also caught his going bad as soon as the speedo dropped out so I know there were no complications like the bearing being welded or seized to the shaft end ( FYI ).
