03 F5 Exhaust/Power Valve Problems

I have had nothing but problems with these dang power valves from the start. They shut off and kick in whenever they want it seems like. Sometimes at full throttle I am only doing 70 mph without any boost from the power valves. Off trail riding is when they are the worst because they don't kick in fast enough and i'm always the one getting stuck which is kinda getting old now lol. I have taken them apart and cleaned them but that didn't help at all. The cables even sometimes come out of the servo motor and it is a bitch trying to get them back in, especially when your hands burn because you accidently slip and your hand hits the exhaust.
Has anyone else had any problems like this and can offer me advice on how to fix it? I took it in to the local Cat dealer in the U.P and he said there was an update/recall for them but it would cost me like $400 and I do not want to spend that kind of money on a 7 year old sled. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

$400 is nothing. I stuck about $800 into my 12 year old sled with 5000 miles and didn't even touch the motor yet. But then again i'm a kid and have nothing better to spend my money on. NO DONT SAY COLLEGE!

I know what you're talking about. I put $6500 into lifting my truck and put $1000 in accessories into my sled last year. Im in my third year of college and finally had to sell my truck last month. Selling my sled never even crossed my mind because I know I won't be able to get another one for awhile lol

Well I can tell you things are not much better with the 07's. My F6 cable came off the pully of the servo motor last year, day 3 of 1 of our trips. We limped it back, didn't get to eat breakfast, packed the trailer and drove home only to find that a 10mm wrench & a few tools would have fixed it on the trail. It appears to me that the cables are dragging or binding in the cable case, I cleaned them and lubed them with some spray dry lube then blew it into the cable with an air hose. Seemed to help a little but already have seen this year during testing that the cable is binding again. Sled has 7800 on it, might need to throw down for a new set of cables.
