Lads,

I need some help on this one. The wife's 04 GSX Limited 600 SDI has no lights intermitently. One time they work and the next 3 times they don't. Battery is charged, guage lights work, electric start works, fuses are fine but the headlights and taillights are not there.......???? Ideas???

Don't know if it would be the cause of your woes, but the relays are famous for failing. You might want to check them.

If you have a multi-meter check for continuity on your ground wire to your lights. While checking wiggle wires around and see if the guage on the meter jumps around. Sounds like a ground issue to me anyway.

You have relays with your machine, 2 in an E-start and 3 in a non e-start. They are up under the dash, you can buy them at your local NAPA, part # AR 201. This is a common problem the relay fixes. You may have to replace both of them to resolve the issue.

Thanks Guys. We will work these and see if they resolve the problem. I tend to agree with Trailshredder; sounds like a ground. Anybody know where its located for the lights??

My 04 GSX did this, but when I gave it throttle they would dim down, at Idle it was fine. It was the Voltage regulator, But it was a slightly different problem. I have learned to have on hand
a few relay's cause it seems like whenever you have a electric or no power problem it is a relay, like SkiDoo king said buy them at Napa.

I had the same problem with my 04' but it was not the relays. The handlebar pad is held on with spring clips. One of the clips was rubbing through and grounding out a wire in the harness. It was an intermitent thing. Easy way to tell is start the machine and wiggle the pad around, your lights will flicker if that is where the problem is.

Check your gounds first, then your relays. I know I was chasing this same problem last year. Someone said replace the voltage reg, but that was $150.00. Not so fast on that recommendation. I found it was a bad relay. If I rememeber it was less than $10.00. Start with all off your grounding points(srews), then relays, then worst case voltage reg.

Good for you lcfcats! Our riding group keeps 1-2 each for times like you just described! We ride from 1200-1800 miles per year, at least 1 or 2 of us have this issue each year. A cheap insurance policy when needed. Take care my friend!
