06 600 Crossfire input needed.

Looking at a 06 600 Crossfire. Not real familiar with them. What's there track record, good and bad about this sled? Thanks in advance.

I've got an 06 600 Crossfire...bought it last year. Great runner, great gas mileage, works great on trails as well as powder. The only problem I'm dealing with is the speedo. It doesn't work more than it works. I replaced the sensor cable, but I'm still having problems. I've heard that Cats of this year have speedo issues. Other than that, so far it's a great sled.

Knock on wood, I have not had any issues with mine whatsoever. I have added some goodies to mine to make it right for how & where I ride. Parabolic Skis for better floatation in the deep, 1.60 Mtn paddle track, Telescoping steering post with new Mtn bars & Tank pads. I have found that the adjustability with the new steering post is the answer to both the trail & off trail rider position. The stock set up did not quite cut it for me, the bars were a tad tall in the seated position & too short for me in the standing position. After riding a "shorty" 121" for years & getting on this, I will not go back to anything less than a 136". It is a little different handling, but, once you get use to it, you won't regret it. This sled is pretty manuverable, it carves well, suspension front & rear is excellent & the engine has respectable power & response as well. Just my humble opinion.-Mezz

Hey Mezz - you have an 06 x-fire?...where did you get telescoping sterring post? I was told they weren't made for an 06. Thx.

thay dont have for 06 unless you cut and weld look at lower post I ttt it a few days ago.I have been talking to black dimond ext because thay are coming out with a light weight adjust post with the bend for 07 up.I am trying to get them to make me one for the no bend post.I have asked what the minn run would be to make a 05 06 set up.and what the cost would be I think thay would sell. and if thay wont do just one I may buy a minn run because I know I could sell alot of them.as far as the 06 I have a seven no probs great sled. you will want to have dealer do or you do rail reinforcement kit. some guys bent tunnel but I think thay were prob clearing driveways.the same motor as the 700 just diff jugs and ecu program. if you are at all tall I would get the knee pads I like them.I payed 6250 out the door 2 yrs ago.I know thomas sno sports has standerds for 4999 and sno pro for 5500 that is the one to get for the extra 500 IMHO.ps check the cooler the early build had a smaller rear cooler that did not cool as well but did have diff gearing that gave them more top end

mn snowman, yes, I have an 06 x-fire 6. I had purchased the 09 telescoping post late season & had it fabricated with the lower half of my original post. ezra brought the posting from earlier this spring up to the top for you "Cat Telescoping handle bars". You can see what I had done there.-Mezz

mn snowman had the same problem with our 06. brought it to the dealer and they replaced the speed sensor down by the drive shaft. had to replace it again the next weekend as it didnt work. AC has some quality control issues with them cause the dealer i brought it to asked AC to send them 10 of them so they could make 1 work on my sled now the one i have worked all year this past season. the good part was didnt put any miles on it for half a season! dont matter tho its the wifes sled!! easy miles

been checking in to bars some guys over at sno west are moving lower mount and not having to cut post.I am going to have to pull sleds out of storage early. I cant take it I need to get to work. this is how a stock zr 900 turend in to a nos burning 1010 picked out monster with a thirst for $100 doller bills

kpagel - So do you think that the new speedo sensor that I put in might be a bad one? It worked for a while then stopped altogether. Should I put another one in?...

ezra, without looking at the lower mount, I can't tell you for sure if that would work or not. I do remember though the pitch of the steering rod connection was different on the new post vs the stock post, so that in itself presents a bit of a hurdle for proper clearance for the bottom of the exhaust pipe & if my memory serves me correctly, the fuel tank as well. I think that approaching it the way we did was actually the simplest. No change in the pitch of the post. All the clearances were the same & no issues with re-routing brake lines, throttle cable or wiring. Though I would be curious to know if another method is easier.-Mezz

yep they put it in tried it gave it to me and it worked for about 2 miles. i brought it back told the service manager to ride the thing, and make sure he did just that put 15mi on the sled. he was suprised that i told him to ride it, but we were both pretty unhappy with cat at that time. i will say the dealer i used was really trustworthy and i would use them anytime only problem they are in Baldwin,MI kinda long trip from MN

hay mezz I spent about 30 minn today looking at a 08 and a 06 side by side. on the 08 thay did move lower mount back about 7/8. the top post mount measured the same from fr hinge to top post mount on both. not exactly the best way to check post hoop support angle but the best I could come up with in a parking lot.the 06 lower post mount is bolted with 2 bolts the 08 was riveted with 3 .and the bulkhead had extra alloy 1 in wider so lower post mount would have more to rivet to .If you go the moving rout I think it would be better to pull the skid and driver .but you could do it with skid and driver in.if bd extreem wont make a post for me I think I am going to try the post mount move thing. prob try to make a vid for u tube .I think alot of guys want this info.like I sed a few guys have alredy done the mount move on sno west so it can be done .

ezra, I don't doubt that this has been done before. I just cannot recall the exact positioning of the off-set on the new post. I am going to ask a dumb question, wouldn't the lower post mount have to be off set to the left to compensate for the post offset? The reason I ask is, when we tried this the first time, the post was cantered to the left, as such, we felt the lower post change was the simplest. Nonetheless, however you can complete the install, it is well worth the effort. It sure would have been nice to just swap out the part but it didn't work out that way for me. To me, it was simpler to remove the exhaust & post, cut & weld the post & replace. What ever works, that is the important part. Good luck with it, I know I don't regret it.-Mezz
