06 Polaris Fusion 700 CFI vent kit

Ok, so I recently purchased a 700CFI w/ @3000 miles on it. A friend tells me I should install a "heat vent kit" near the right side, by the exhaust, because of the extreme heat they create. He has a carbed Fusion 600 and the insulation in that area is all melted & such. Mine looks just fine. Is the "vent kit" only needed for carbed models or do I need it for the 700 CFI too?

It's not "needed" I had a 900 which was much more prone to overheating issues and rode 2800 miles with no issues before I sold it.

Although it's not needed it is suggested to keep engine bay temp down. The 600's were even less prone to this issue than the 900/700's. I'm guessing his melting issue was from some aftermarket exhaust or missing some spings on the exhaust system, it seems odd to me that he had issues.

if riding in deep deep pow it is a good idea not MI on most days but over the hood all day stop and sink pow u need em.
now need and help other things diff story.
the cooler your clutches stay the better they work .the more heat you can remove from under the hood the more crisp your sled will be.
my 600 poo I road last yr melted around the muffler exit after a few days of deep riding but no venting would have stopped that bad 40yr design flaw that cat at least tried to fix in 08up
but I think tunnel dump is the only real fix.
1 thing to help cool with out vents is pull all the epa noise padding that will at least help the heat escape and not have to escape insulated a blanket then plastic.

I had the 06 600 Fusion. Your right foot will definitely stay warm...... It's because the vent that exists is at your shin, and then a lot of it escapes in the foot well also. But much of the warmth comes from the coolant running through the running boards. It goes around the outside. Causes some ice build up too. I never did the extra vents in mine, and it was fine. Just know your toes will always be warm!

But was yours a CFI? Does it make a difference if it is a CARBED or CFI engine?

The 600's are Carb. But that doesn't matter. CFI or carb, they both create heat. How they get their gas doesn't matter. It's the engine and body design in general. And as others have said, the cooler the engine compartment, the better, but really, I never had any problems. I really think you wouldn't notice it as much if the coolant didn't run through the rails. I just made sure to just wear thin socks in my boots, and bring an extra pair with me in case they got wet (or god forbid you are stuck somewhere and not on the sled...).

If you want, you could get some exhaust wrap, from an auto parts store, and wrap the pipe and silencer, and that will help to keep the heat from wicking off the exhaust and help reduce what blows out the vents, and instead have it go out the bottom with the exhaust. Worked really good on my 2009 Sportsman 800 ATV. It's basically fiberglass strapping that you wrap around the pipe and body of the silencer. Works incredibly well.
