1-30-17 Tomahawk update

It snowed real hard for about 3 hours...we ended up with just over 4 inches...it's real fluffy though...either way it should help the trails out a bunch...just watch for ice in the corners, and the lakes are very rough (all that slush froze)......the snow was heavier south than it was north...rhinelander only had around an inch at 3 pm.

We certainly needed this....with the colder weather in the forecast, if the clubs can get out and pack the trails..we should have pretty good trails by the weekend...hopefully the knuckleheads are not out blowing the snow off the trails before the club can get out there.

Trails won't be perfect...but they should be fair to good for this weekend...any additional snow will just be an added bonus...with low Temps expected to be in the single digits (after tomorrow)...the trails should set up real nice once they are groomed...again...watch the lakes, and icy corners (slow down)...otherwise...we are back to riding again ;)

Thanks for the update Attak Man. I'm heading up your way on Wed night. Staying at the Best Western on Lake Nakomis. Would love to hear your opinion about which direction we should go on Thursday morning.

Any advice will be appreciated......Thank You

Update....it's started snowing again...another inch so far since midnight....the clubs are still working on the trails...so I can't really tell you which is best right now...I would head west to pier willow regional..and over to price county...or head south into tomahawk, and then head east to the Harrison hills...head towards elcho- pelican lake...that's one of my favorite rides....however...there is less snow to the north...rhinelander only got 2 inches yesterday...we have 5 here...the heavier snow seemed to track just south of Tomahawk and over to Gleason and into langlade county...that is also a good way to go...however some of the Lincoln County trails south of irma are closed as of this update...so don't go too far south.

Just a quick update...the clubs are out and grooming...and it's COLD this morning....3 below...the trails are setting up nicely...the trails are really good right now...NO NEED to head to Michigan to ride...of course there are a few rough areas, and some icy corners (and the lakes are a bit rough)...so becareful...but otherwise I'd rate these trails an 8 out of 10... :0

Attak man, you are right on about Hoppy's. My favorite stop for a cheese burger and Fries!!!!!!! Best bar keeps around!!! And we love those forest roads!!!

Sorry to be a bummer, but I think Hoppy's is closed. We rode by there a couple times in early January and it wasn't open--it was one of our favorite trailside warming stops. Somebody please correct me if I'm mistaken--maybe they were on vacation?

Trails in the Rhinelander area were all groomed last night, they are in great shape. I could not believe how well our snow held up with that long warm-up we had. I rode towards pelican lake from town and would say 9 out of 10. A couple of wet spots but the club is working on them and it wasn't a big deal to get around.

X2 on Rhinelander, road last weekend and very surprisingly good on east side up to three lakes, sugar camp. Snow sure helped Tuesday, wish I was there. Hope John is correct on next week. Heading back up to house Monday or Tuesday. Gall bladder getting yanked in the morning so not sure if I will be able to ride but if I can I will.

We stayed on lake Nokomis this past weekend and had great riding. My hats off to Northwoods Passage, Knight owls, Northern trails Unlimited, Willow Sportsmans and Forest Riders. You guys rock and do an excellent job with your trial systems! Thank you!

Bringing the kids up later this month, any suggestions on a good place around Tomahawk to stay? We thought about the hotel with a pool but we do that enough, thought a nicer resort type place in the country might be more fun.

I never know how to answer these posts...as...there just aren't many of the good old fashioned family friendly resorts...
I know there are a few...but I don't like to recommend any of them because of personal preferences, and tastes can be very different...hotels are soooo much easier imo...and we have two in tomahawk with trail access,...and pools....you could try the tomahawk chamber of commerce for more info on winter resorts, that are family friendly...I just don't know many....I know that sounds dumb...but I live here...so I never have had to stay at one..lol
