Left Ldf this morning, am currently by lake nokomis....so far 64 miles on my dad's old 500 venture (test run, first run in two years).
The trails around flambeau were mostly white, and overall I'd say good condition....the 17 trail (railrode grade along hwy 47)...was nice all the way to lake tom...very little snort or rocks...in and around woodruff was rough as usual...but it smoothes out when you get out of town. Trail 12 from lake Tom to the bearskin was awful....rough, snirty, rocks, and two huge waterholes on each end of a swampy area..the back end of my sled sunk down 3 feet when I hit the first hole...barely got it out...i was able to go around the other hole...but i would avoid trail 12 from lake Tom, until after this colder weather....the bearskin was fair to good in spots...the snow was more sugary, and thin as you head further south.

The rock garden (north of nokomis, just south of the merc stop bar)...is rough, and rocky as usual...i would avoid that area.
Again...more snow to the north, less to the south...lakes are not safe, and many of the swamps aren't either.
I am going to take a different route back north this evening...but planning a route away from swamps, and lakes is tough...i will post a report later...btw...lots of sleds out today in the minocqua area already.
Trails are definately rideable...but don't expect pristine conditions

Unfortunately, I did not ride back tonight...was checking the old yami over, and noticed both rails were cracked near the bend...not sure if i did it today, or the kids did it (the sled hasn't been ridden out of the yard in 3 years)...so...i have some repair work to do this week.

Rock Garden rocky?? No way!! Didn't you hear that they spent two days and a bunch of money to dig the rocks out of the trail?
I've been through with the groomer and it was still a little bumpy but the drags should be able to knock the tops off the bumps with a
few passes. Just look to the sides and see the piles of rocks/Bolders that they pulled out of there. There is a competition going on to
help fund this project. Just take a guess at how many rocks were taken out. Just ask one of the Northwoods Passage members for
details. Little hint ... its a tad more than 25!!!! Thanks to those that helped and volunteered their time to help save some carbides!!

Not picking on the club...and it is better...but it's very thin through the wooded areas, the further south i went..the thinner the snow got...i was still pinging a few rocks through there.(it might be fantastic with 4-5 more inches on it)..we just need a bit more snow, (and this cold weather) in the tomahawk area...to really shape things up

HUH?....TOO bad you can't blame the clubs for low snow and high rocks....LOL ...What The F.uck?...over....head shake....oh yea...not picking on you.

Attack man and snow builder please don't fight. Merry Christmas, and let's hope that the hard work and effort put in by clubs and volunteers is rewarded by a winter truly deserving of being called winter. Let it snow!

Merry Christmas , WHPH,.....not squabbling, just can't understand why he mentions "the club" when refering to needing snow and pinging rocks.

Post edited in case I misunderstood.
I can't change your quote.

***...i was referring to swampy's post...apparently they spent hours picking rocks...i had no idea as I went through there and was still pinging rocks off the skis...simply reported what I rode through and saw...and Did Not want them to think I was attacking the clubs effort. (Definately not my intention)

Swampy great job to you and the Passage groomer drivers on getting us riding. I rode Christmas Eve from the Merc Stop down to Nokomis through the rock garden and was amazed at all the rocks removed! That was a GREAT joint effort between the Rriders and Passage to clean that area up.

Thanks Attak man for your trail reports...very honest reports and I'm amazed that some give you a hard time for your efforts! You could stop in a New York nano second then real time trail reports are gone and back to pot luck internet reports from non riders.
