Not much to say...the rain/freezing rain didn't hurt us as bad as we thought....the colder temps late yesterday, and today (currently 12 above) have refroze everything that was melting..parking lots, and back roads are very icy (keep that in mind if you are trailering)....I have not been up to the north end, and am not sure what lakes are marked..but I had some buddies head out and they said the lakes are very slushy, and as I mentioned there are some wet areas in the low lands in the swamps....conditions ranged from fair (thin in spots)...to very good.....a real mixed bag out there....typical early season conditions..as always we need more snow, and cold weather....there are some closed trails in Lincoln and Oneida counties (refer to the clubs/areas you plan to ride, or see my previous post on 12/23...swampy outlined the closed trails)

Rode all of the Northwoods Passage trails that are still closed today and removed the trees that came down from Sundays wind. We made it through everything again and things seem to be freezing up nicely. A lot of trails we packed last week froze with some rough spots but, oh well. Most is passable by sled but might be a few days before we can get a groomer across some areas. We will try to get into a couple areas to flatten them out.
Gonna talk it over with our president and try to have all of zone 1 open by the weekend. Will keep you posted as soon as something is decided.
Still have to check ice conditions before we can get lakes and rivers marked but it's getting close. Please remember that it's early season conditions out there and there are a lot of areas that we can usually pull snow into that are not marked so please ride with caution. Also, keep in mind that the wider those trails are packed, especially in the 'swampy' areas, the sooner we will be able to get the groomers through these areas.
Anyway, it's looking better out there.

Update: Lincoln County Zone 1 will open at Midnight Friday December 30th. Or Saturday morning. Which ever way you want to look at it... This is with the exception of the 19 Corridor South of Hwy 86 and the 17 South of Hwy J. These trails, along with zones 2 & 3 in Lincoln Co. Will remain Closed.

This will give us time to mark the lake crossings and get done what needs to be done before they officially open.

Again, there are a lot of areas that we still can't get into with the groomer so please be patient and let things firm up and pack those edges. I stepped off the trails several times today brushing and signing and came out with a wet foot! Posts went in easy too. Get out and ride and please patronize those businesses that support our great sport.
