12 Feet of Snow in 48 hours

That's just INSANE!! I have been caught in a couple lake effect snows in the U.P. . Worst one was doing the Michigamme loop, started from Twin lakes really started coming down around L'ance, by the time we got my Mt. Arvon we came out of some woods and couldn't see a thing so we turned around and what started as a normal trail on the way was just a trench wide enough for a sled with snow as deep as bumper in spots in a very short time, was a long slow ride back, I will never forget that but to imagine 12 feet of snow in 48 hours.... INSANE!

That would be awesome to experience, but also pretty much impossible. Mount Marcus Baker is a BIG mountain and no way to get to the top of even near the top as the mountain is surrounded by glaciers.

Also the airport they speak of is in the valley, nearly at sea level, so will not see much, if any, snow.

Still, that's an incredible amount of snow in such a short amount of time!

Had to wait for the sun to come up in AK, but here is a link to the webcam at the top of the Alyeska Ski Resort not far from Anchorage.
Anchorage got all rain so far.

There is another from a much smaller ski area a bit north of Anchorage>

Sounds like the Mother of All Snowstorms. Maybe JohnDee has some thoughts....

That's crazy! I followed one of the links in the story you referred to and saw that Michigan's 3-day snowfall record is 60.0 inches (assuming I read the chart properly). That's pretty crazy, too.

Has anyone seen any snowfall reports from Alaska? I saw one news article that said it is "likely" that over 10 feet has fallen in the mountains, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
