Check out this ad from 1975. The copy essentially says: A man (probably a trapper) made and handed out these photos as a commercial for himself with women with a twinkle in his eye, to find a female companion. He is especially proud of his hand-knitted p...is-cover, and adds that it can be opened and adjusted in size by a cord if preferred, and he has the pattern for it if anyone interested. The photo made quite a storm 1975. They are now trying to find out if he found a woman companion.
