Tons of snow...another 5 to 7 inches yesterday...a new record set for snowfall in one month...so far 40 plus inches in February and it's not done...with another massive storm headed our way for the weekend...anywhere from 8 to 16 inches could fall (depending on who you believe)..and there is more cold weather headed our way for the end of next week...so its gonna stick around for awhile...I put on 150 miles on Monday, and Tuesday and the trails were good to very good, except around minocqua on Monday (and that has since been groomed)...the lakes are rough with deep snow and drifts in spots...also some slush in spots from the heavy snow..so be careful on the lakes....it doesnt get better than this...so get
Up here and ride!!!

......
....!

New record for us in T.C. Mn for snowfall in Feb. Put us at 10th snowfall month overall. Weather guy said with upcoming snow we will probably be around #5 for most snowfall in a month since record keeping has been logged.

I'm in Mercer now. Snow is deep. With all of Wisconsin and surrounding area's with snow, I was surprised yesterday how many sleds are out. Went to Boulder Junction, Bents camp, Star Lake and Sayner. Sleds everywhere. Tons of two up rentals, which means inexperienced riders usually. Passed about 8 in a row once. Most with backseat empty. Passed us going other way and made no attempt to get to their side of trail. We got to the point when sleds approached we just pulled over and stopped. And lots of riders with a small kid in front by their lap. And most hauling butt. Lakes are really rough.

Sometimes rental sleds means the people got smart and instead of taking on the pain in the rear of owning a snowmobile and only getting out once or twice a year they found it easier to just rent. The empty two ups are caused by rental dealers who run out of single seat sleds and it happens all the time.

I will second that, old buddy of mine who has rode for 30 years, does not own a sled, he just waits till now. When the trails are about as good as they are going to get. He comes up for a week and rides with us. The rental people FREAK out when he turns the sled in after 5 days and the thing has 1100 miles on it. Yes he rides it LIKE a RENTAL.

I understand the empty two ups. Not criticizing. I only come up twice a year, sometimes 3. But at $200 per day rental, not for me. And when you rent, no insurance. Rental place takes a cc # for damage to their sled and that's it. Was just making an observation. everyone should be enjoying themselves on their terms

So Anyway.... Back to our regularly scheduled report for the Northwoods... Looks like a Foot or so, so far, in Tomahawk. I'm thinking the
groomers will be going out without the drags on for the first run to knock the air out of the snow and plow back some road crossings. Should
be a lot of fun. This is just crazy for the Northwoods!!

Oneida county sheriffs department is advising people not ride until the groomers go out...they have numerous calls of stuck sleds, on trails, lakes and fields...(its on their Facebook page)....I have never seen that before...lol...but I can tell you this it is really deep out there...if you are on a low powered, short track sled, or are an inexperienced ride...you should probably stay off the lakes for a couple days...the trails have sleds running them...so they should be fine....the blowing and drifting is really bad up here...anywhere from 12 to 16 inches fell, and its wet, heavy stuff...if you are coming up...roads are awful...gonna take a couple days to clean them up

Play in/on the concrete now.

I'm riding to Eagle River, WI from Green Bay Wednesday, wanna join. They ought to have the trails solid by then.

Correct on the insurance. I asked my insurance man once-----If I hit someone on a rental, and they sue, who pays the bill? He said very quickly "you" Homeowner's insurance covers you for liability on a rental car or truck. Not a recreational vehicle----at least with my insurance. You could lose everything you own if you are negligent in a crash.

If you rent, please be aware of this. You are better off "renting" a buddy's sled.

One way around this is to own one older cheaper basic sled and carry full insurance on it. Depending on insurance company and coverages, the insurance from your owned sled may carry over to your rental sled.
