2 inch paddle track

I have a 2001 ZR 500 and talked to a dealer and he said that i could not fit a 2 inch paddle track on because it would hit in the tunnel in the front. Is this true or can it fit.

yep, not easy. usually they are pressed on at the factory. i don't think it's too fun to do. plus, it means you have to open up the chain case, pull off the shaft, etc.... just like changing the track.

why not go a little shorter, like 1 3/4 or 1 1/2? maybe those would fit. and depending on why you are doing it, might be just as adequate.

I put a 2" track on a 98 ZR which has the same bulkhead from what I can tell. Has the same 9" drivers that the 2001 mtn cats have with a 2" track as well.

If you decide to go with a 2" track you need a track that is notched for the coolers that run the length of the tunnel.

well my buddy had it for his ZR 600 2001 and it fit his but i was just wondering why it wont work on mine. going out to wyoming, towgotee pass this winter and just have a 1 1/4" on now. people say it will do fine and out there with a 2 inch you cant really tell the difference. oh well, thanks guys.

With the power loss and a 500 a 2 inch will be too much paddle. you will realy need to know clutching and gear way down. 1.6 works the best for alt. with your power

There is no question that the 2 inch lug will work better in the powder, which is why this is the shortest lug made for long track sleds, and many have even longer lugs.

I would bet the 2 inch would work okay, but to be sure I would measure. What would restrict this track from working is the distance between the track and heat exchanger. Lowering the skid won't change that.

Changing the track will involve pulling the chain case anyway, and you might as well gear it down for powder running when you do that. Makes a big difference having the right gearing, which will be wrong if you keep the stock gear setup.

There won't be very much power loss by going from 1 1/4 to a 2 inch lug. But running in powder will suck the juice, so gear down, and get the carb corrected to the altitude you will be running at.

You don't need big engine to run in powder. Just the right paddle track and the right gearing and carb settings. You won't have a lake racer when your done, but doubt you have one now...anyways.
