After reading a previous threaf about some guys having to spend the night in the woods I decided it's time to invest in a decent set of two way radios. but I'm wondering what brand and model you guys are using that work best for our type of application?

I use the BCA link radios. Little spendy for what they are, but if you can convince your riding buddies to buy also, they are pretty slick. The nice thing about them is you don't need to take your gloves and helmet off to use. Don't have to dig it out of your pack or pocket, etc. Also you can hear the mic chirp or chatter over a running sled. Rechargable and the batteries last at least a day or two of all day on time before needing a charge. Also, they won't interfere with an avalanche tranceiver if you ride out west at all...

Guess I should have specified. Just looking for a pair of handhelds.

The BCA link is basically a handheld, just that it has a remote mic that you can clip to your shoulder strap on a back pack. Great range and good battery life. The benefit is you can leave them on all day. If you get separated you can chirp your bud and he will hear it even if he is riding. You don't have to wait for him to stop, wonder where you are, dig his radio out and ask "got your ears on?" Your ears are always on. If you search around you can usually find them on sale for around a hundred bucks.

Work just as good in the yoop as they do out west, as far as I know... Just put them to the test last weekend. No problems what so ever.

Not sure why they would work any different? The only hindrance out west is the hills. Hills are much smaller in the yoop... I don't think trees make a difference in range?
