Yea from the pick that head looks good. Just take some sand paper and knock off the high stuff and it will be alright. And I know what you mean about that 700, It was and is a great motor. I always wondered why they didn't keep that and drop the 800 and perfect the 1000. I mean look at cat, F5's ran with the 600's; F7's ran with the 800's and so on. But I guess the manufacturers decided it would be best.
As far as a new sled, it all depends on your riding style. I was really washy at the start of the year on what I was going to by. I was riding a MXZ chassis just like you and the wife got a 07 Blizzard at the end of the year last year. I have a hard time on it being comfortable so I decided that I was going to go to the new XP chassis but was leary about the 1200. Still was on my way down to buy one when I found a really nice Attak that has had a alot of stuff done to it. I haven't rode a new 1200 XR but dang this Yammy is nice for sure. More then enough power for sure (out runs both of the 800 doo's I got) but If I was riding in large mogals all day hard I still think doo probably has that beat. As far as maintainace they all are expensive period. Just instead of buying oil all year you buy it in the spring. If you really went the cheap way I suppose you could change you oil for around $20 but I use synthetic so with oil and filter it is close to $40. Even though they say you can get a lot of miles out of the plugs I will change them at the same time. (since I have to pull so much off to change the oil) and that is close to $32 for the plugs. I supposed you wouldn't have to change them if you didn't want to. If you take it to a dealer to get it changed figure on about 2-3 hours for an oil change.
Rule of thumb 2 stroke is good for 3-5000 miles (what everyone else says and all of mine have always been 10-15000 miles before going away) and 4 stroke is good for 20,000 miles (so for me should be good for 100,000 miles right?!?!)

Again thanks you everyone! I order my parts from Doo Clinic yesterday. They were on the high side for some stuff, but after some negotiation we came to agreement and I did not have to place two different orders. They said they may even arrive today, that would be cool. I'm going to try to have everything up and running for a trip on Feb 19th. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. I know that seems like a lot of time but this weekend is out, even if it get the parts and weekdays are just to busy with the kids. So the goal is double check all the parts and make sure I do not need anything eles then put it all back together next Saturday. I will try to take pictures of and post them later.

As far as a new sled I was considering a 4 stroke for longevity. I don't mind paying more of front if I know it will last. I'm the type of person the keeps my stuff a long time and I try to keep it in good condition. But I figured I could make this one last a little longer, and start looking at truck this summer. That way I can stagger my big ticket items. Of course I have been saying that for the last four years now.

One of my friends did let me take his sled out the Saturday night after mine had this problem. He has a Vector LTX GT I gota say it ran really nice. My only complaint was it seamed like I was riding with my pant legs wide open. When I first felt the cold air I even stop to check that I did not forget to zip them.

Doo Clinic Crankshaft with Fatty Bearings
P1300290.JPG

I did notice one thing there are alignment pins on the old Crack bearings but not on the new ones. I called Doo Clinic and they said the case will compress tight enough around them when put back together that it will not matter is this true? My friend putting it together said that is right but still said it was safer having and said that they were there for a reason...

Hears the Picture of my old crankshaft.

I will take some better pictures of the old crankshaft tonight.

Your both right. The pins are there for a reason but I have also heard of no one spinning the bearings on one of doo clinics cranks. So I would not worry about it myself. I am sure your buddy knows what he is doing putting it back together but if not make sure he checks those crankcase halfs for flatness before he puts it back together. Also look that oil pump over good and test it before you put it back on. Would be a shame to put that kind a money into it and have it burn down because of an oil pump. Parts look good and I don't think you are hurting yourself here at all. Besides it ain't gunna be to much longer before those kids are ready to tear it up for ya anyhow....

I did spin the other bearing, they seemed to be good may have pick up some of the junk from the bad bearing but at least it will be a good core.

How much did that fatty crank cost you. I have the same sled and my top end went out. I am thinking of doing bottom since i have it apart. My sled only has 3000 mi on it. i am going to go with rk tek 738 kit. This just happend to me 2 weeks ago. And i know these sleds are fast. i have raced a yamaha vector. Kinda kept up to him. But it was on ice and he has stock track and I had a 2 in paddle track. he got bout 3 sled lengths away. but thats bout it tell i toped out little over 125 t(hats what the spedometer said). he would go that fast so i passed him.

$650+shipping here and back. Shipping for me was about $20 each way through ups. I sent it standard ground and that got it to me in one day. The one part that killed about this is I did a top end rebuild 4 years ago and took the hole engine apart and had the crank out back then. It did look fine and made it 4 more years and 4000+ miles but to know I could have put a little more in and "most likely" not had this happen sucks. I just hope that I can see lots more mile of it. And that the fatty crank is as good as everyone says.

I assume this is the kit you are talking about http://www.2strokeheads.com/bigbore.htm With the cash your putting in the top end why not spend the that on the bottom end. Otherwise your bottom end will be the week point. It does look like a nice kit!

Yea that is the kit I am talking about. And yea thats what I maen. I was just going to go and get a reman form doo but I want it to last. Thats why I am asking pricing. That is also why I am going to go with that kit. Because it solves all the problems with the single ring pistions and it dispaits the heat better threw the head and cylenders. So why not solve all the bottom end problems while it is apart! Plus it adds some power to it.

hotrodbrett good luck with the rebuild lets see it when you done!

I had a poll going and most of the time it was "fix it" in the lead. Then tied when I cast my vote to fix it. Now that I decide to fix it the poll results favor parting it. Just thought that was funny! I'm happy with my choise just want it back together. Hopefully it will be running tomorrow. I will let you know.

my boss has same sled, I believe a 2000. I do remember, that shortly after he bought new, that the dealer informed him to richen the oil pump setting because of some issues. you may want to check into ? he has not had any issues yet.

Well, how does it run?
Well from sitting in the garage it sounded great. May be this weekend I'll take the kids around the house a few times will see. Planing a trip to Caddy on the 19th. So I will find out real soon.

I've never had any problems with the oil pump. Usage has always been steady and about the same from trip to trip. But thanks for the heads up I will watch it a little more closely.
