The sled idles at around 1000 rpm when i first fire it up cold. After the motor warms and i ride it and let off coming to a stop the motor idles high around 2500 to 3000 rpms. Sometimes if i burp the throttle it will slowly idle down but not usually. Runs great other than this.

Clean the carbs and replace the needle and seats. Also remove and inspect the intake boots (between carb and case) for cracks.

Very common for those engines. I had several that did that, in fact they idled faster, and I would just quick pull the choke for a second and it would idle down. Nothing to worry about IMO.

Probably carbs sucking too much air. Dirty maybe. Boots cracked.
Need to fix if so. Motor will hatch if left like it is. Jmho.

Thats how these sleds are set up from the factory you can change the pilot air jets I believe .9 to 1.0 will fix it? Can't remember off hand the number.

1) CHANGE PILOT AIR JET TO 1.0 (those are the brass little thingys that you can see in the inlet side of the carb when looking at it from the air box side, NO need to remove or dis-assemble carbs to to this

2) CHECK AND RE-SET T.P.S. TO 4.0 TO 4.1 VOLTS @ WIDE OPEN THROTTLE

3) REDUCE IDLE SPEED TO 1400 R.P.M. (WARM ENGINE)

Thanks guys. Carbs are clean and boots are good. I Should have stated that. I will try the air pilot. The swating the choke works but is anoying and i want it to idle down like it should.

Could be a crank seal? try some carb spray on the crank area and see if the idle goes up!
