I have a 2001 polaris 550 sport touring, the cylinder has overheated, and i have heard of about 30 other people who have experienced the same thing, does anybody know of any recalls, or anything like that, cause etc.?
if so please email me at jesse207445@gmail.com it would be very appreciated.

Okay, lets think this thing out before you throw Poo. Okay. The sled is fan cooled. The sled is 10 yrs. old. Mice love this sled, the shroud on it says Habbit trail all over it. How about a mouse nest causing a hot spot on the pull rope side? Need more info.

haha i had an 01 sport touring 550 too and it blew up twice within 4000 miles. Once at 100 and again at 4000. Don't know what to tell ya.

I had a 2000 which also blew up. These sleds had a lean condition at mid throtle and very low oil use. There was a recall on the needle jets. I would update the jetting specs to 2005 or newer and check your oil pump, and re build the top end on both sides. The motor does not have a belt driving the fan, it is part of the flywheel.

more info

i drove it 7 miles in about 1 hour, I had to go get jumper cables to start another sled, and it idled there fine, on the way back, it was fine as well, but then i started it to go tend a flag ice fishing, and it topped out at 30 mph ,and as we all know it WILL go faster than that, ad when i stopped it backfired really bad, and then i checked the spark plugs, and there was oil all over them, and so i changed them, and i got it started for 3 minutes, and checked them again, the plugs where brand new, and they where covered with oil as well, going across a lake it topped out at 30, top speed, no faster at ALL, and it had oil on the spark plugs, and it had no power, could not even spin the track, it took everything i had to load it. i have heard of other people having the same issue with the same year, and make sled, i have nothing against polaris, but does anybody know about any recalls and stuff like that.

it did not have a mouse nest in it, that much i know, but really, i am asking about recalls, and other people having the same problem, we already know how it happened (ethanol, and gas additive.) but i was wondering about other people having the same issue.

If i still had the sled, I would rejet a good amount. Probably 2 sizes up and slightly richen up the oil pump too.
