Hey guys, Im looking at adding another sled to the fleet and thinking about getting a used 4 stroke. Honestly, I do not know much about them other than just random talking to other snowmobilers. So Im wondering if 7,000 miles on a used RX 1 would be too many miles to comfortably purchase. I have always heard they can run well past that point and I know it has a lot to do with how it was treated and maintained. Any four stroke guys out there who can help? Thanks!

7000 miles on a Yamaha 4-stroke is nothing. There a are a couple of things to look for at that mileage or questions to ask. Have the exhaust donuts been changed? Have the drive axle bearing been inspected. Have the clutches been serviced. The last thing to check would be the suspension bushings and arms. Check arms for cracks. Hope this helps.

What Kip said plus check track condition. See if it has been replaced The '03s came with the 121 conical lug track. If they were smart they replaced it with anything other than a conical lug track. I would have to believe that if it still has the original track and it is 9 years old and has 7000 miles on it it must be shot. Also there were problems with the seats coming apart at the seams on the '03s. The rear suspensions also liked to break and spear into the track. Check it out good. If the oil has been changed regularly the engine itself will probably go 20000 before you have to do anything to it. The rest of the sled wears out.

2003 RX 1 Ton was 1st year of the Yami performance 4s sit in sleds so don't know what recalls there were but probably were some..... I was at the introduction of the 2003 RX1 at Crystal Lake IL & that sucker was heavy up front & difficult to lift front end of sled. I would say best of RX1 was 2005 ride wise then Yami went to rider forward Apex in 06. 7000 miles is nothing for the 4 cylinder 4s engine with routine oil changes & exhaust donuts. If you can find an 06 Attak or newer much better sled & can stay with any brand 2012 sled ride wise. I just don't like sit in sleds too hard on the body so would pass on RX1.

2003 rx1 and 2004 had oil issues these can be long life sleds. Do not overpay for these I would not pay much more than 3000 for these you can put 1000 in these real quick bushings wheels gasgets
