Truth be known. You can buy a 2 stroke for 2-3k and think about when your next rebuild is coming and if your towstrap is along for the ride or get a Yamaha 4 stroke (120 to 160hp) and know you will get back....a set of exhaust donuts never left anyone at the end of a tuggie.

Huh interesting.
Guess I was just puzzled with the 100 questions that made it sound like you’d never seen snow.
Ride on,,

Never been on a four stroke. Always puzzled by posters that are puzzled. (just having fun)

Nope but a frozen relay, wadded up drive bearings, cracked suspension, or slides worn to the rails will let you go vroom vroom in the parking lot.

Right if those types of routine maintenance items are above a persons wrench turning skill level then by all means get it to a mechanic yearly as needed.....no matter what brand you ride.
I am carrying extra relays on my Polaris and the FE bushings, as well as all sealed bearings are chit.
The Poo FE bushings ARE easier to replace which is great because they need attention twice a year.

11,000 miles for an Apex Attak without maintenance speaks well for Yamaha. However I find this difficult to believe those pipes would be intolerably loud by now with shot donuts. Garrett may have a better deal than he thinks. Previous owner probably took the Attak in had routine maintenance done paid the bill and rode. Typical Yamaha gas and go owner.

So looking at a 2009 Vector RS with less than 10K miles, I assume this model being 3 years newer than the 2006 Attak would have some benefits to it.

Thanks

Doubt it Vectors second class citizen to Apex back then stayed sit in much later than Apex. Do you look at any of these sleds before you ask questions???

Vector went to same chassis set up as Apex in 2008.
Exhaust gaskets need to checked at same intervals as 4 holer.
You will notice a rattle and backfire .

I had an '09 Vector GT with the clickers. Power was awesome, but it's a carbureated sled, and even dealer told me the "carbs can get funky", if not cleaned routinely.
When it got iced up in the tunnel it felt like 750 lbs to dead lift. Never again. Next

Maybe a 2006 Rage. What do you think?[/QUOTE]

I am guessing you are kidding.

By far, the Apex is the better sled out of these older 4 strokes. Find a good clean used one that has been well maintained and give it a shot. For the years/mileage you are looking at, an Apex will be the same or only a few $100 more. And a much better motor and FI system.

Same reaction from me too....Vector in that era was the hand me down little sister to the big bad Apex Attak. All the new tech FI, Chassis, shocks really anything went thru the Apex later to the Vector sometimes much later. Vector is a good sled too but not an Apex Attak Gt by a long shot. Take a look at these sleds can’t tell much from ads and phone calls.

So kind of interesting from the 4 strokes dudes.

Don't buy a 2 stroke - don't buy a Polaris 4 stroke - don't buy a RX-1 (2005 model) - don't buy a Rage (supposed big improvement over the RX-1 from what I read) and probably don't buy a Vector?

I will need to ponder on this!

Thanks

Yep that’s accurate for you Garrett started wanting to buy 2s asking those 100 questions then went to the 4s side and were warned about Poo 4s, RX1 old tech too then you jump up to Apex then say it’s an Attak then back down to Vector then further down to Vector Rage and a member
asks if you’re kidding? Lol you’re the one asking the questions in a very random off the cuff manner disorganized manner just seems like you don’t know what you want or need to know to move forward. Then you say you’re confused??? Lol Lots of good people want to help you on JD and take the time to do so but don’t shine us on...you want help we’ll help you but get your wants and specific needs organized then ask discreet questions and you will get discreet answers. You know this one chit in chit out and if the shoe fits you know that one too. Lol

No need to chit on the Vectors guys. We ran a 2005 Rage to 14,000 miles....bought it as a brand new leftover for $5400. ... sold it for $2600 in fall 2008 after 4 seasons....do the math....try and top that economy....LOL.
2006 Vector/Rage had the Monoshock.
Vector followed into the Apex chassis just 2 years later in 2008. Vector got PS in 2012 just a season after the Apex.
Vector has the 3 mode TBW since 2016 which Apex never had....The wonderful world wide web ended the Yamaha sled division in this country....buy em up boys.... they are more valuable than yur bitcoin and storm trooper dolls in the future....LOL

Find a Vector after 2010 when it went EFI, preferably with clicker shocks, and go for it. As long as you're OK with 600 lbs. dry vs. a 475 lb. +/- 2-smoke. I hated the weight, JMO.

Better yet find a 1987 trail Indy. Bullet proof. You can put Pennzoil in the oil tank. Weighs 200 lbs less. Turns better. Actally looks sexier especially if a mouse has chewed on it somewhere.

Just ran another 50 miles a twisty woods trails on the power steering Apex. ...Probly as close to formula 1 a person can get on snow....lol.

So narrowed it down to a couple sleds. With all things being equal other than a little bit on price, would there be a reason to take a 2008 Vector GT over a base 2009 Vector RS? Mileage, maintenance and condition seem to be generally equal. The adjustable shocks on the 2008 are nice but not sure how much I would play with them. Needless to say, the 2009 is a year newer and maybe a little bit better on the maintenance side.

Thanks
