2006 Crossfire Make Over!

My buddy has a 2006 Crossfire he bought leftover in 2007 and loves the sled and doesn't want to buy a new sled yet. Lucky for him there are products on the market to give it a new look and feel.

Plans:
Skinz Tunnel Kit - Lose the floor boards that run all the way to the back increasing deep snow performance and the plastic in the rear.
Skinz L.E.D. tailight and lose the big o.e.m. light.
Skinz AirFrame Running Boards - Keep the boards free from snow.
Skinz AirFrame Seat - Drop a bunch of weight, gain height and narrow the seat up.
Extend it out to 144" - More flotation. (Looking for a 144 x 2" 2.52 pitch track and Tracks USA rail extentions)
New Graphics Maybe

Today we installed the L.E.D. taillight and tunnel kit which is required in order to run the AirFrame running boards.

Project took 3 hours using a manual rivet gun (long story) and 2 guys. Even though there was 2 of us it isn't required and really didn't shave that much time off. If one were going to do this set aside 4 hours to complete just in case you run into any snags. All in all the kit installed rather easily and fit perfect.

Tools used:
Drill
Drill Bits - 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4"
Rivet gun (pneumatic will be best)
Punch
Hammer
One of the following cutting tools: die grinder, jig saw, air saw.
Philips Screw Driver
10mm wrench

Step 1: Remove seat, rear plastic and start drilling out rivets using a 3/16 bit.

Step 2: Dry fit the new tunnel section and mark the outside rails in order to cut. (This is the ONLY cutting required). Remove tunnel section and use your cutting tool to cut off the extra running board rail.

Step 3: Place the new tunnel section in place and mark the holes from under neither with a marker or pencil. Drill out these holes and start popping rivets. There will be some holes you'll want to drill out after you have 75% of the rivets installed.

Step 4: Install the connecting pieces from the rail to the tunnel in the rear. Install taillight, seat studs and rack if you desire.

Step 5: Install new snow flap

Step 6: Install the new bumper.

We did not install the connecting pieces, seat studs and rack since we will be running a AirFrame seat and running boards. This is just a basic run down of the project, complete detailed instructions are included with the kit.

After Haydays the seat and running boards go on. Once we find a track we'll install that and finish up the project.

Looks awesome! Updating to the 09-10 rear tunnel section on our 06 M6 was a huge improvement. There are a lot of guys hanging on to the 700 laydown CF's and M's as they are lightweight and make sick power when you add the RKtek 800 kit.

I have been thinking about a new rear tunnel bumper. what seat of the pants improvement did you notice?I am just on the fence if 12in buy 2in tapering to about 1.5 is really hanging up the rear if so then I think I need to pull the cooler and stand on it to flatten it out because that is hanging down about as far as the running boards.sorry for the ramblings just things I have been pondering.and how is the wash reading in your pistons when hanging around the mid range (power valve open closing area]with that rtk 800 kit?

looks good. I've always thought the billet idler wheels and what not make a sled look custom or more unique. make sure to pose pics when you are done.

We used all OEM parts on the install (Thanks to M&M Powersports), you know it looks a lot cleaner along with the new 2010 M seat. As far as any performance gain....well I think it was just for looks myself. You can flatten the cooler, or just order a new one. Troy @ RV sports in Thief River Falls has a pretty good selection of used take-off parts.

I have not done the 800 yet, I know others who have and love it. Talk to Kelsey over at RKtek, he will give you the run down on the kit. I know it doesnt require a fuel controller at elevation, but it may be a little on the edge at low elevation. This is all assuming your using the stock pipe.

For any M6's out there, I have also heard putting the 700 cylinders on the sled while still utilizing the stock M6 mapping makes one awesome performer. Mountain Magic has done several of these sleds.

looks like you also installed bigger wheels under tsl bracket.what are you going to do with gearing if you go 144?
