2007 Phazer question

I own a 2007 FX GT Phazer and I know alot of you guys cover the hole in the tunnel. Yamaha put on the black covers to stop the snow from getting on the running boards but it didn't stop the snow from melting and freezing on the tunnel. Do the after market covers prevent this? Any advice on products would be helpful

The after market kits work good. You can just get a piece of aluminum for way cheaper and cut it to size. That is what i did and it worked great.

We closed off both holes and it doesn't build up the ice on the running boards anymore. We haven't experienced any problems with heat either even when riding in almost 60* temps last April in the plains.

if your a trail rider, closing that hole off will help a lot. I closed mine off with a piece of aluminum and it looked like the factory did it. I took the seat and exhaust pipe off just to get to it easily and it came out perfect. Now, I am a boon-docker and it will not help there no matter what you do. I ended up selling the sled and that was part of the reason why. All in all a very good reliable sled

Hey guys is it possible for someone to post some pics of the holes you guys are talking about?

Thanks,
Dan

I noticed when the ice builds up the track starts rubbing on the ice chunks and starts vibrating and makes noise. does the cover plate stop this?

lenny did you close off the front hole also? We closed off both the back and front holes and on my son's 07 Phazer FX it has stopped the ice build up on the running boards and we spend most of our time riding off trail around Seney and Grand Marais out in the Plains. It has not created a heat problem either as some had suggested it might. A lot of guys over at TY have closed off both holes with very good results. Wags the back hole has been covered by Yamaha on the newer sleds and you can't see the front hole unless you take the seat and tank off the sled. But closing both holes has stopped the running board ice up problem though ice will still build up under the tunnel but not as fast or as much.

I closed off the entire hole from front to back. It did not cause a heat problem. If your offtrail and just riding light without carving than it may help but the phazer has big running board and with every carve they scoop up snow like a funnel dumping snow in. As you stand on the boards it compacts the snow, the heat of the under the seat exhaust helps to wett'n the snow thus the ice issue. After a few carves in powder the footwells are fill'in up and eventually you cannot even get your foot under the bar holds. there is only 1 fix to this problem and here is ehat I did

this is the kinda offtrail I like to do and there in no way to keep the snow out of the running board, I figured I may as well just let it fall through so they dont fill up. This is my buddy on his red rx1 but this is kinda extreme terrain

We closed off the back hole in the tunnel on all of are rental Phazers and it made a big difference. For a little added insurance we heat taped everything inside around the exhaust and never had any heat issues. Yamaha does have a kit now available also to close it all off for around $80 however you can also do it with just a piece of aluminum and heat tape on your own.

sorry for all the posts but this is bringing back many memmories. The pics of my sled in the deep snow is before I installed the "better boards." I used to strap a rubber mallet to the tunnel and whan the snow and ice built up to where it was bad I would stop and smack the underside of the foot boards and knock off all the build up. Here is a pic with the mallet strapped on

ever seen a sled get stuck going down hill, I raz my buddy all the time about that stuck. He says there was a sharp hump he had to maneuver around, I say the RX1-ton just to heavy, lol. Actually that guy is a very very good rider now he is on a x-fire and looks like a pro after the 1 ton
