2007 Polaris compression test question

The sled is a 2007 Polaris 600 ho CFI. It has always run great. I just checked the compression. One cylinder is 120 psi, the other 75 psi. What the does this mean? Will she keep running or do I need to rebuild?

Thanks xc500mod

dump the coolant and pull those jugs it is cooked. you should be around 130 or 135 on a happy gauage.
120 could prob be ok if it were both jugs but my guess the 75 is scorched or bad gaskets.at lest it is a ez motor to work on

Ok so she's cooked. I got a couple questions.

1. She's got about 2,800 miles. Was there any specific reason for these sleds to cook the engines. Or could it have been bad gas, bad luck, etc.

2. Is there any general maintenance to do while we got the engine out?

3. What would you guess the cost would be to get 'er fixed?

actually thats a pretty darn good motor! but i believe there may have been a few updates (not sure what)that should have been done. check intake boots, fuel=drain it all, were you using ethynol?give us some more history=what oil, what fuel,ect...price can vary, but my motors always come all the down!you cant check,or that matter clean out crank bearings without dissassemble. how was it acting prior to this?

Ok so I took it to the dealer. Here are my two options. I can have them tear into the engine and start working on the bad cylinder, they said anywhere from 700-1200 bucks, so lets say $1000. they'll take a good look at the bottom end, check the stator, change the fuel filter, and put it back together.

Or, I can trade it in and pay 2k for a 2010 IQ shift 600 with 2,300 miles on it.

So for 1,000 dollars I can get the 2010 IQ shift 600. They are both the CFI motors. did they make any improvements?

what would you do?

I think that quote sounds a little high.

Complete upper end rebuild kit (both pistons, rings, wrist pins, wrist pin clips and a complete upper end rebuild gasket set).

$281.22 Total Parts
$260.00 Labor
$541.22 Total For Both Sides

Deduct about $113.00 if you only do one side.
Add about $200.00 for a cylinder if you need it replated.

I would like to know how they are going to take a good look at the bottom end? unless you split the case what can you see not a whole lot.
I also think it is a bit high but that is what happens when you go to dealer.
but that said I would go with the 2k upgrade if it is 2g out the door if they want to get you higher than that I would bring it home and call around.

Just to fill you guys in, I traded for the 2010 IQ shift 600. I am pretty excited about it. I am hoping polaris made some changes to the 600 CFI from 2007 to 2010.
