2008 Polaris RMK carb boot

I took my carb off to change the jets this weekend since we are heading out west in three weeks and noticed one boot had a tear in it. I had heard from some others that this was a common problem when these sleds were new (almost like a factory recall issue)-does anyone know if this is true. Also, is it best to get the OEM part and replace them both or does someone sell aftermarket boots that may be a little more sturdy? Thank you in advance for any feedback! Dan

You should replace both ,if 1 is bad the other 1 will fail when you don't want it too_OEM is your best bet when replacing.I don't know if they have them for Polaris sleds but boysen reeds has a aluminum reed cage assembly that connects the carb to the cage with a small piece of hose.Great product but I have only used them on skidoos.De laminating carb boots are a problem on polaris and skidoo sleds.I haven't seen any on the cats yet.

Stick with the oem part, you could go aftermarket but run the risk of fittment. When they make (aftermarket) a boot alot of times it's one that will fit many different models, some what of a "fit all" for 600, 700 motors. The prob is it may may not fit the air box correctly. I would not trust one for "out west" All your ducks need to be in a row, for out west. & yes get them both, with out a doubt.

yes they are junk replace both they say the newer ones are better.
have u already gutted your air box on that thing so u can actually get your hand in there and work box on.
that box is a real pita.
if I were still running carb sleds out west I would deff be running dial a jet or atcc. in a week u can be sitting at a 30deg temp swing and in any day depending on town u ride from from 5700 to 11000ft in alt.

Just had it replaced on my '08 600 Switchback. I believe there is a newer version of the part available from Polaris.

Thanks for all the feedback! I will definitely be buying two new boots to replace the ones I have on now and they will be OEM. The airbox was gutted as soon as I got the sled back from HayDays.
Ezra, do you have any links or information on dial-a-jet or atcc? I am not familiar with those. Thanks!

if I were going dial a jet I would do intela jet so u can tune right on the dash when driving.

if u dont want to tinker with anything go with the holtzman
http://www.holtzmaneng.com/
If I remember when using holtzman U have to recalibrate the unit when going from say MN to CO
that would mean yes u would prob have to re jet for the mountains but it would not matter if u had a starting point in town of 5600ft and road up to 9800ft with a 40deg temp swing from morning to night.
if going to someplace like tog U would not change more than 3k any way so I would just buy the 12 bucks in jets and be done with it.
I my self like to tinker and tune so I would prob do the intela jet so I could run on the edge all day and risk blowing up 30mi from any trail lol
