2008 SKI DOO 600 HO so start/won't stay running

Last week I went and started all the sleds(needed the 2 stroke fix). Then the other day went to try and start again and now my 600HO won't light up and when I pull started it it ran for 10 sec and shut off. I checked fuses around the battery and they all look good. Any suggestions?

How did you test them? When you checked the fuses, were the contacts clean and free of corrosion? Also....make sure all grounds are good and tight, and corrosion-free.

Is this a carbed model or Etec?

The dash and headlights don't light up? I just had a similar problem on my 09 renegade, ended up being the voltage regulator. The 08's and 09's are notorious for electrical issues and you almost need to take it to a dealership to get it scanned because they are the only ones with the software to tell what is going on. Mine ran then would die and wouldnt start again and the dash lights and headlights would not come on.

Russ- had an electrician buddy check the relays out. He said they were fine. I'll check the fuses. Its Fuel Injected.

Thunder- I'll check the fuses first. If that's not an issue it sounds similar to your problems and off to the dealer. We were hoping to do UP on the 27th. Well see

Thanks to you both!

Mine went bad i am thinking because i had a hand warmer short out last year, then before this season i got the warmer replaced and everything was running fine for about 10 minutes then it went haywire, stalled, finally got it restarted but with no dash lights or headlights and would keep stalling, then wouldnt start at all. So i think the voltage regulator was weak from the hand warmer that shorted out and when a new hand warmer was added to it it went out completely, got a new VR installed and good to go. I'm no professional but this is what we are thinking happened. Could be something more simple for you. The 08's and 09's have had a lot of electrical issues so it could be anything i guess.

I was just curious because I didn't know how one could check the relays.....but I'm sure an electrician would have a way. As for the battery, you will want to load test it and not just assume that it's good because the meter says it's fully charged. Not saying you haven't, just saying that many people make the mistake of assuming that a fully charged battery is good. Again, not saying you're one of them.....just trying to cover the bases. You know, as in the EMS field -- basic before advanced. :)

If all that checks good, maybe an issue with the TPS? I know some models had issues with the wire rubbing somewhere and wearing through the insulation, but I don't recall offhand what models were affected.

A friend of mine had the same problem. He called me and I went over to check it out. Easy fix... He was out of gas

I know from experience that new batteries can go bad -- had one do so after only 500 miles -- but I'd say the odds are against it. I think if it were mine, just to be sure I'd get a new relay or two and slap it/them in there and give it a shot. Just to be sure. Can't hurt, might help and besides, you can always use a couple spares anyhow, right? :)

Well, as much as I checked and looked, as Russ said check for corrosion, I missed the large fuse on the side of the battery. I looked at the fuseble link, not the light corrosion on the blades! My 13y/o, who was reading the blog, pulled it, called me on how to clean it. Next call, the sound of sweet rumbling and also a very confident teen. Who is getting another Christmas present! Yup Dad is eating crow!

Glad to hear you found and fixed it at no expense (well, other than the crow -- hope it was seasoned properly! :) ) Electrical gremlins can be a big PITA. Do yourself a favor and put some dielectric grease on the blades (if you haven't already).

Merry Christmas!

Now remove and clean the rest of your grounds.Battery to chassie ,voltage regulator and engine to chassie. These are very important and may look fine, but remove and clean them, they will cause all kinds of gremlins on a SDI.If you cant find the engine to chassie add one.

^^ This. The SDI is a fine engine and generally extremely reliable, but it is very dependent on a sound electrical system and requires that a few relatively easy precautions be taken for optimum performance and reliability.
