I have a 2008 SKI-DOO MXZ 800. Do any modifications need to be made to go to the mountains or if I am easy on it can I ride it without making any modifications.

You'll need to make changes. Or you will burn it up. Even if you stay on the trails. Will run very lean and be a gonner. Typical changes aren't hard or expensive. Carb changes if it's not EFI, otherwise, just some clutch weights. If you are thinking of going off trail, you'd want a much larger lug track.... The old 1.25 ain't gonna get you real far in that deep soft powder.

performance will be poor if no changes are done to it. You shouldn't burn it up though as the fuel delivery actually gets more rich as you increase in elevation. get the clutching and jetting info from your dealer for the elevations
you'll be riding in and have it done or do it yourself.

Ryanalness - No jetting is needed for your sled, though I'd strongly consider clutching. The whole purpose of adjusting the clutch weight is to maintain your RPM's as close to peak performance as possible. (I believe your sleds peek is 8150 R's) To little R's = underperformance. To many R's = stress on engine. The type of riding you plan to do along with elevation you plan to ride in, will factor into the optimum setup.
