2010 600 Clean Fire IQ Tour Oil consumption.

Hey Everybody,

As the title says, i have a 2010 Polaris IQ Tour, 600 clean fire That I got new last year. We are in the planning phase of our first sled trip this year, it's going to be a bagger trip. I need to know how many miles I can get from a quart of oil and or from a tank of oil. I never bothered to check last year. I realize that gas stations usually have oil but I am a staunch Amsoil user so I'm bringing oil with me. I will use something else ONLY if I have to.
The ride will be trail cruising from Minnesota into Canada and back, so likely there will be little or no high speed cruises for long periods of time.

If any body has some pretty solid info on this I'd appreciat it. Thanks!!

Got a 07 600 cfi, 4 inj. I get 140 per qt. Depends where your pump is set. Mine is at 58-1. over 8000 miles, so figure from there.

I never kept that much track but I believe that my light would start to come on after about 140 miles. I have a 2010 IQ Shift 600 cfi with a 121" track. So if we do a little math subtract the Polaris specs of the size of the tank vs. when the light comes on. Sorry, I don't know those figures.

Thanks guys, I kinda thought it would be about 130-150 miles/qt, , and true, it all depends on how hard you are on the fun flipper. Being that this would be all trail miles and I hear that Ontario has a very low trail speed limit, , like 50 kmh/35 mph we'd pobably be sipping gas and oil.

I read on another sight that one can message that speed a bit. Probably don't want to rip down the main trails at 100, but I've heard you can maybe get by with 50 or 60mph. The ride should be awesome though!! Looking at starting in Ely Minnesota, basically make our way north into Canada to Sioux Look out, then head back to Mn through International Fall and back to Ely. Not quite sure of mileage yet but I think we'll be pushing 800. It's called the Cross Border Circle Tour (there's a web site) we're just adding some miles. Hopefully the big fire up north Mn won't burn out too much of the trail we'll be riding. :(

Yep 50 kmh/35 mph speed limit is what kept me away for Ontario. Big wide groomed trails at 35mph is boring. Difficult to understand why that speed limit has not been amended? :(

One more question- Any body know what the oil tank capacity is on the IQ Tour? I assume all IQ chasis probably have the same oil tank. I tried to find it in the owners manual but it of course doesnt' say anything.

A 2007 IQ touring 600 has a 3.4 quart capacity. A 2008 IQ touring 600 has a 3 quart capacity. It should be the same for the 2010 as 2008 I would think unless they changed something else.

You know, if you know your exact route, potential stops along the way, I bet a simple phone call or two could net you a few dozen places along the way to buy the AmsOil you want. Then you wouldn't have to worry about carrying so much.

Just a thought.

If you know where you are staying say 1/2-way through, you could probably even ship some of it up there.

I've never heard that the Ontario speed limits are an issue. We rode in Quebec about 7 years ago and it wasn't there.

Thanks Polarice, that's what I was looking for! :) XCR440, Yeah I thought of that. The other thing is that i could ship some quarts to one of places were staying. That said, after figuring the mileage and rough oil milage, , if I start with a full oil tank and if I pack 6 quarts I would have more than enough oil. The wife might have to bring a few less pairs of skivees. :D

Thanks for the help everybody! And the excitement and anticipation builds!

I have been to Ontario, beleive me, you won't be going 35 mph. You will have more opertunities to hold it wide open than you have ever had in the past.

Not that I'm trying to say anything, but if your wife's skivees take up the room of 6 quarts uuuummmmm, you might need a bigger sled.

Haaa! It's not that she' got big skivees, , , she just likes a lot of em, , must be that womanly freshness thing. ;) And with that said I better stop right there. :)

About what Duffy said, , sounds very intruiging hammering down for while. I hope the trails are nice up there, , but that's another topic.

I have been to Ontario touring at least five times and the only time we went 50kmh was during acceleration and deceleration. We rode like we were hauling moonshine and never once did we see a police sled on the trail. In the towns like Hearst, Hornpayne and the like you just follow the speed limits. Out in the bush you are prety much on your own. Have fun and plan you gas stops in advance.

That is why they should amend the 35MPH speed limit. Pointless........BUT they could bust you with the law on the books. Canada was proactivly promoting snowmobliling & this guy calls me offering trail maps & area information & I told him save your money I'm not coming with 35MPH trail speed limit. He was speechless & didn't know the speed limit law was on the books & that was over 14 years ago.lol No clue why Ontario thinks they need such a restrictive speed limit law?
