Trying to help a buddy out
2010 arctic cat F8 won't run after it warms up
Issue occurred last March and we're just looking at it now
No codes on his dashboard
Starts up fine runs until it gets hot and then just dies when you give it gas
There is no water in the gas
The local dealer had no ideas

What is the fuel pressure during all of this?

When it happened we pull the gas line off pass the pump and then checked to see if it was working by trying to start the sled, plenty of flow, checked for sparked both cyclinders, checked plugs, removed every switch, throttle, ignition, etc.. no start.
Then out of nowhwere it starts , we get ready to go and it dies as the throttle is engaged. Towed it 10 miles it starts up and runs for 5 minutes and then dies. 90 minutes later when I got back with the trailer drove it right in.

*** dealer has no idea? as in u brought it in and he could not figure it out or a phone call he blew off? Talked to the dealer on the phone, he has bought 6 sleds new in the last 20 years from him and was told straight out , no clue if their is no indication on the display module. He asked if their was a tool to plug in and was told , he didn't have one is their one ?
Their wait is 6 weeks for service ( yes my buddy should of looked at it earlier ) , doesn't want to leave it sit outside their for 6 weeks till they get to it and won't just put him on the waiting list and let him know to bring it in. So he might as well try and diagnoise it himself being that he is a mechanic for over 20 years.

will it restart right a way? Not for a while

did u pull the belt and try? yes after I towed it for 5 miles , ran for a while and then died.

how is it idling? when it runs fine

are both jugs firing at idle or rough like only 1 side firing? I belive both are firing.

not that it matters much how many mi on it ? almost 9,000 miles

Sorry, but it sounds like your typical A/C dealer. I had the run around with 4 dealers in my experience and couldn't find one to diagnose a fowling and fuel delivery problem until I made the executive decision to have them lower the fuel/oil delivery ratio, which of course they fought. (Thundercat) After that the problems were largely fixed but it took me the better part of 2 years to get that far. I've seen some real incompetence at their dealers. I just wonder how the spark is? Might be something finicky going on with the stator as Cats are somewhat known for that. What you describe sounds like something electrical.

Throttle Safety Switch? Maybe throttle cable is stretched out or moisture? Will it stall/die when you engage throttle when it's cold?

Sounds like the gas pick-up in the tank fell off
You can check with a bent wire (coathanger into a hook) and a flashlight
Ethanol will eat anything

He checked all of your suggestions and some we found on-line, he called Novotny in Johnsburg and they talked him threw a few to check. He thought it was fixed when he found the throttle cable not all the way in, he ran it out around the yard with no issues and then let it idle and it died while he was inside , same old issue. He's bringing it in Tommorrow to Novotny, it's got to be something electrical. Will post what they find.

I had an M8 with similar issues, took it to the dealer and about 2000.00 later for labor and a new ecu it was all better. I didn't really like spending that on a sled a month out of warranty so I sold it and went back to my 03 sks and have never looked back. For 100.00 I can have a spare ecu and keep it in the trailer. For 2000.00 I can have a spare sks 700 in the trailer......... Good Luck!

Same with me....after probably 6-7 hundred, and tons of frustration, I thought I had most of the problem fixed, except for the new stator, so I cut my losses and sold it. (Thundercat) You did the right thing

Dealer Called my buddy today, they found the issue , a wire under the engine had rubbed bare. Took them a while to diagnose it as it threw no codes at all and basically they had to go threw the electrical components one at a time with a meter.

In addition his reed valves and secondary are shot. But still cheaper than a new sled.

$1687 for a new ECU
I would take it to the deal before guessing wrong on a $1600 non returnable electrcial part. Elecrcial problems suck if that is what you have going on.
