ATLANTIC MINE - They've raised $1,400 already and the John Dee SnowFest this weekend will push fundraising to the top.
The seventh annual John Dee SnowFest will be held Friday and Saturday and includes guided backcountry snowmobile rides, a poker run, a raffle/silent auction, a banquet and live entertainment.
"It's comprised of people from throughout the Midwest who come to the area and we do a couple of different types of snowmobiling events," John Dee said.
Every year, the group aims to raise funds for a particular need, this year for a 9-year-old boy in Calumet. Last year, the fundraiser raised about $11,000 to help someone in need.
One hundred fifty people have already registered for the weekend events, which is capacity for the banquet event Saturday night.
"That's the maximum we can hold," he said.
The public is welcome to attend an event at 8 p.m. Friday night at the Mosquito Inn in Toivola which doesn't require pre-registration.
"There will be karaoke and we'll be giving away some prizes," he said.
Saturday, the banquet will be held at the Brownstone in Atlantic Mine and features music and prizes, all of which have been donated by local businesses in the Copper Country.
"There is tremendous support that we get from local businesses," he said. "We get so many prizes donated from businesses. We have universal donating from every business we go to. It's incredible year in and year out."
