2013 Touring Line Ups Boring!

The 2013 touring snowmobile line ups seem boring to me. Yamaha BNG nothing new. Ski-doo BNG I don't see much there either more r motion rear suspensions.
Polaris brought the Indy back ...yawn...but no 800 Adventure & just about eliminated their 4s models which was bummer to me. I like the Cat lineup plenty of 4s & 2s to pick from & I like their specs on XF platform. But.... unfortunately I had very bad experiences with Cat in the past so gun-shy on quality & reliability of their sleds. Overall all 4 OEMs disappointed me with 2013 trail sleds. Am I missing something new with the 2013 trail sleds?

Don't know what "BNG" stands for....sorry.

I can only surmise that the manufacturers put most of the "excitement" factors into their performance machines. They probably figure that most of us buying touring machines are more into comfort and luxury than we are into looks and performance. Just a theory. I don't know about the other three, but where Doo is concerned you're right -- no new engines or platforms.

Yep, 800 Adventure in mostly black with grey and silver graphics. They even added graphics to the saddlebags. Like Indy said, only available via snowcheck.

I disagree on the Indy 600, I bet they sell a ton of those, for rentals too. The base model basically replaces the liquid cooled Shift, I think it's a great move and a great name to bring back, right Indy_500? ;)

I really like that new Indy - would like to see it in a 136. Maybe next year.

I don't know much about Ski-Doo, and they seem to always have every sled category covered, but all of the other three seem to offer something really good for touring. I'd probably go with the Cat 4 stroke for a trail or touring sled. Would love to take that to Canada and ride big miles for a week with it and not have to carry oil with. Of course it seems none of the new 2 strokes use that much oil either and the gas mileage keeps going up also, at least compared to my 2006 Polaris 600 carb.

These days the focus and development seems to be in the powder sleds, which is where the sales are at now. No one will admit they want a touring sled - look at the windshields they put on the new ones, when most trail riders would be better off with something that actually blocks the wind.

Not much new from Cat this year since the chassis was new last year and are supposed to have new engines next year. Not much new from Poo outside the RMK, but their chassis is relatively new also. I don't know why Poo ignores the 4 strokes, but maybe they don't sell as well as I would think they would. Yamaha hasn't seemed to put out anything new for 5 years.

Should have said all trail & crossover sleds for 2013. Since I ride 80/20 trails & powder I favor the crossovers for trail riding. I have no interest in anything less than 136 or greater than 144. The XF Cats spec out well since I favor 4s. Poo really disapointed me as they move further away from 4s each year. Don't know why?.... seems silly to ignor that market.

Do you have any idea what % of the market 4s is? I've often wondered, but never can find any good information on it. I wish they would do something more too, but I have to think something is in the works. Polaris seems to have learned from recent mistakes and are putting out a pretty good product right now. I'm hoping they are doing extra testing on a new 4s. My fingers are crossed!

My guess on the Poo 4-stroke is that other manufacturer's have a greater market share of 4-strokes and are better known for their 4-stroke products. Not worth it to them at this time to put money into a product that won't sell as well for them? Just speculation on my part. I'm thinking investment capital, supply and demand.

I'm asking about the overal 4s market share vs. 2s for all OEM's, not just Polairs.

I do agree with your comments WTG!

Uh oh...that would mean doing a little research and possibly require some brain activity! Sounds like a good time wasting project for me!! :)

Mark: I don't know but Cat 4s sold very well this year so 4s sales stats went up. Cat platform is light & plenty of HP with turbo but I'm don't faver 4s twins, triples are better but weigh a bit more. Poo has stated in mags that they think 4s market is limited & I think they are plain wrong & I hoped Poo said 1 thing & then would do another with new 4s engine & platform simular to doo 4tek sleds. I was hoping for a blown up 4s turbo Adventure & would have been all over that good bang for the buck. You had 4s so know how trouble free they are & then there is that broad 4s power band well worth a bit more weight in a trail or crossover sled. I think 4s is not on radar at Poo like WTG said bucks & effort not there for near future if at all. Have you looked Cat XF turbo sleds?? WOW the specs, features, tracks, graphics & even cargo racks are HOT HOT HOT!! I probably need to have a discussion with Chad at M&M as I respect him a real good guy both Yam & Cat dealer. Chad knows I faver quality but want something ligher than an Apex XTX although weight does not matter if walking out alone at my age.lol:)

I do see myself on a 4s again, loved mine! I'm afraid it won't be on a Cat though.

I thought the same thing but 2nd year for Cat XF platform & features are discreet like I designed the sled for myself. Difficult for me to ignor since I have owned them all but Cat was my worst new sled experience but back in 96. Scares me for sure.
