I just can't see Yami coming out with something this awesome, in a AC chassis, and then bring out a all Yami anything. And I do think this SW is awesome!!!!! But, it is not for the masses of rider's. Maybe a lower powered less $$$$$ version of SW to replace Apex with different name? Apex Max? Viper Max? Way too much space between Viper, and SW. Yami engines, AC chassis, = $$$$$$$$ saved, $$$$$$$$$$ made I'm a thinking.

dfattack, that's simply speculation by me so please don't take it to heart but that's my gut feeling. As I've stated before Yamaha is not going to quit making pure breed sleds and I know people are tired of waiting but it is what it is right now. I wish I had more insight on that but I do not. Right now the relationship is working well with Cat and I know that doesn't please everyone. They've made a new sled that out handles and out performs the Apex so I just don't see them making it beyond 17, now does that mean there will be a new version of it, that I do not know. I also know it's not for everyone but it still filling a void we need filled and I agree we need something with less power as well in that 110 to 115 HP range. Hopefully that happens. I know Yamaha is reinvesting into their own engineering so that tells me they are not done developing their own products. Big Z, you know you deserve it and this sled is right up your alley!!!:) Also, the mileage on the Turbo I'm told will be very similar to the stock Viper unless you're ripping it wide open every day so that's very good news for those who are concerned about mileage. I'll do the best I can to answer any and all questions guys.

wonder where the dyno chart is for this sled he raves about. that one of the genesis shows the sweet spot to be at 8750 and most guys will leave it setup way to high. I love to crush they guys with a CAT that's tuned sweet as I see you do too

That is a huge gap in product 130HP Viper next stop 200HP SW.lol... That void needs to be filled at 150-160 hp touring Apex /Vector sleds. As you stated prolly a new version...new name... & way over due....imo. The 110 -115 hp 4s snowmobile also needs to be addressed as well but the sweet spot in sales is 800 2s these days at 150-160hp and the Yam core wants the new 4s answer to 150-160 hp in a big way as dfattack noted. Phaser sales never were big for Yamaha and not saying 110-115 hp 4s would not sell with the correct platform but Yamaha has totally ignored that niche so far. The 2018 50th will be huge imo and tell the story for new products so I can wait & see as new SW not for me ...used maybe.. but not new. I think you know more but that's ok I understand your position.:)

The more I hear and see about the new Sidewinder, the more I like it. To bad I don't have 15K or so laying around to buy a new sled. I think a new 2017 Sidewinder would look good next to my 1981 Sidewinder.

Yamaha would do well to get one in my hands before next season. Many would be on board with a simple thumbs up from me.
I am all in for the Yamaha run to number 1.

What is the difference between this production sled and the Push Turbo Viper you could buy the last few years?I'm sure it's been fine tuned and the bold new colors are great. The HP # numbers look the same. I'm not slamming the sled,I'm just wondering what the difference is? The dealer added Push set up didn't screw up your factory warranty as I recall.

Seems to me there is a lot different about the 998 turbo vs the 1049 w turbo. One engine is boosted one is designed around the boost. Many new engineering feats talked about in the article. It will be fun if the horsepower wars get started back up. Right now its a one man show.

Not sure about viper vs sidewinder chassis differences?

This powerplant sounds like a winner especially if you wana go fast

We came up on four sleds in the woods last year. Yammi boys. Two were on Push Turbos and the other were on Blacked out versions of the new sled. Very cool looking and sounded bad ars. They were louder than the push sleds and very quick. When we came up on them, they took off extreamly fast. We were on logging road that was whooped out. Everyone in our group were impressed with how hard they launched.

Hi Woodtic.........I wondered that myself when the new Sidewinder was first released and did a lot of research on the interweb. Here is a link to a informative piece that was put together by someone who was very much involved in the development of the sled:

http://snowmobiles.yamahablogs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Gensis-Turbo-FINAL.pdf

You'll see that the motor was developed from the ground up for a turbo along with many other changes to accommodate the added power.

About an inch into the article this ...."In the beginning…Model year 2003: Yamaha ‘sealed the deal’ on a commitment to build class leading, 4-strokesnowmobiles with the introduction of the rear exhaust, carbureted, high output, Genesis 4cylinder powered RX-1.Four years after the introduction of this benchmark machine - and with new 2 and 3 cylinder4-strokes firmly positioned in the market - Yamaha again focused on the top performanceclass releasing the new Apex, powered by an evolved Genesis 150 4-cylinder FI / EXUPequipped engine."

Did EXUP appear on the 2007 models?...do I need to read further if not?
