509 helmets

So I am going to get a new helmet before next season. I like the design and looks of the 509, just not the price. So tonight I was browsing some helmet sites and came across the AFX FX-17 helmet. I like the flat black one, plus a couple of other ones. I just happened to have the 509 website up at the same time when I noticed something. The AFX looked like the 509, A LOT! So I starting to compare vent locations and everything else. Well, it looks to me like the two helmets are exactly the same. The only difference being graphics. Oh yea, and price! I can get the flat black AFX for $67.99 from Dennis Kirk, the 509 is $180. Sure the 509 has the cool sled graphics on it, ( but it should say 906 instead LOL) but that is not worth $100 more than the AFX.

Just thought that peeps might be interested in my find, in case they are deciding on getting the 509 helmet.

that 509 looks like it's needin a tall windshield

Actually the 509 helmet with the 509 goggles are surprisingly air tight and warm. I am happy with mine.

If it is -20 out I probably won't go riding anyway! Even if I had a tall windshield and full face helmet!!

The Fly helmet ($100- $118 model) with the 509 goggles work great. The helmet comes in flat black. I have seen a lot of guys wearing that combo this past season. Novi show and Jackson Hill climb vendors had them so I suspect Milwaukee show or Haydays will too! not sure of model number. very light helmet and at the lower end of Fly pricing.

I guess I didn't see where he had said they were the same. I think it is bs that he charges that much more for sled graphics. Oh well. :)

don't want to hijack but have any of you used the klim F4 that thing is costly.was thinking it would be a sweet warm day in the woods helmet. but have been worried about what it would be like after dark with 70 or more high speed trail miles back the the shack

Yep I think helmets are the same. I have the flat black 509. I like other then the front vent tends to get plugged up with pow real easy. Its about 2" think outside to inside and snow has to be tapped out from time to time or no venting.

Helmet looks great Matt! I just got that same jersey two weeks ago. LOL, does it keep the wind out?

I tried on the AFX helmet today, it fit good. Didn't like the flat black in person like I thought I would. Now I'm thinking the Fly helmet, the carbon one I bet is real light, but, maybe a little more than I want to spend.

Skylar - that helmet looks cool. I like orange for sure. LOL The pull over jersey is the bomb in all kinds of weather no issues ..but it takes a lot for me to get cold. Started out a little small and actually stretched out and fits perfect.

Skylar, I use a Fly Lite Wild, with 509 goggles, its a great combo, the helmet is cabon fiber and kevlar very lite, goggles fit great, nice tight seal. I got my helmet at the Novi snow show and after some haggling paid $50.00 for it cause it was they're last one. Check out Bike Bandit they have pretty good price's

I'll hook you up brotha! If they go on sale this summer I'll let you know ASAP. I am riding in the F2 Carbon Fly helmet and it's nice.

Klim helmets come with a cold weather insert which is a wind stopper for those cold days.

Matt, I like orange too, sometimes I get pushed off my sled by unknown foces, and I want the guy behind me to see me so he doesn't hit me. LOL. I know what you mean by it taking a lot to get cold, I have a built in sweater system.

Snobuilder, yes the current 509 is the AFX FX-17. I am glad I did some checking before I went with the 509. I like the sled graphics, but not for an extra 100 bucks.

Bradzoo, thanks for the info bro!

Paul, keep me posted if they go on sale!
