55 Minutes Well Spent

One of our family members that travels for work sent us the following email. I don't think she'd mind if I shared it.

On my flight from Appleton to Detroit, I got to sit next to a Korean War vet.

Before we took off the pilot announced that we had a vet on the plane and thanked him for his service. The whole plane then clapped and cheered for him. It was quite touching.

We chatted a lot. Like any old person, he had a lot to say. He was in the service for 25 years. He told me his only mistake was leaving too early!

He wears two watches when he travels - one on central time and the other eastern. He does this because he can’t change the time because his fingers aren’t limber enough anymore. He lives in Fort Lauderdale but travels to Appleton to see his daughter a lot.

He thanked me for talking to him on the flight. He said talking makes him happy.

When we got off the plane in Detroit, he held up the line for deplaning because he had to stop and tell the pilot that he did a good job.

I just share because it was a great 55 min flight. A good reminder to all of us to talk to older people, especially vets. It can mean the world to them.

That is very cool. I always make it a point to thank a vet for their service when I see them. Couple of months ago I was in a local store and there was a gentlemen at the counter in fatigues, I walked up to him shook his hand and thanked him for his service, he in return said thank-you for your support, first time that has happened and it made me feel good to know the support is appreciated.

this is the way more people should treat other people period, old, young, vet, or not
its NOT that hard to be nice to others
but do agree talking to older folks can sure brighten there day and you might learn something or hear a great old time story of how the world was WHEN?????
I have a lot of friends that are close to or in there 90's, and I am almost half there age
and I highly enjoy hearing many of there accounts from there past
was a truly different world back then
