600 SDI- Oil Consumption

I have a 05 600 SDI HO and it uses about 3/4 of a gallon of oil in about 225 miles. I run BRP full synthetic oil, new top end was about a 1,000 miles ago and it has 140 compression in both cylinders. I have a MBRP can on it but everthing else is stock. I feel it is using to much oil? Thoughts?????

Better than using too little oil! Your getting 75 miles to the quart, which is rich but not too bad.

It sounds a bit much, compared to mine. You can dial it back, but before you do I would check the oil pump and make sure it isn't sticking open. This is a known issue. There is a fix for it, if you go on DooTalk and do a search you'll find lots of info.

How many gallons of gas is it going through in relation to that 3/4 gallon of oil? You need to figure out your gas to oil ratio before you go adjusting the oil pump.

That's way too much. First, like said above, make sure pump lever is not stuck wide open. Then find the cable coupling for the pump and pull it apart and measure the distance between the two halfs. It should be at 18mm. If it is not, adjust.

I own a 2004 MXZ and 2005 GSX, both with 600 SDI engines. When I first picked up the '04 it was using about double the oil of the '05 so I slowly adjusted the cable until they were using roughly the same. It's definitely more than 18mm though... I think every sled is a little different. I use the semi-synthetic blend XPS oil. No major mods.

Just completed a ride last weekend and checked oil & fuel consumption (forgive my Canadian units):

2004 MXZ: (I was riding - a little throttle happy)
270km, 44L fuel, 1.9L oil --> approx. 14.5 mpg, 23:1 ratio

2005 GSX: (wife was riding - much more cautious)
270km, 37L fuel, 1.7L oil --> approx. 17 mpg, 22:1 ratio

They both still seem fairly rich to me, but better rich than lean. It would be nice to be closer to 30:1 but I'd rather not push it. Plugs look great.
