700 problem

Got my 700, ran great put it on the trailer. My dad shut the gas off before we headed home. He never informed me of this. So, i get it off the trailer, get everything cleaned, swapped my C&A Pro Ski's and put my new amsoil stickers on (thanks to getsome). Then, went to load it up on trailer, drove it about 10 feet on grass, then turned it around and aimed it at the trailer (it was running this whole time) then i went to hit the gas, moved 2 feet so i'm 8 feet from the trailer. i had to move the sled to aim it up better. I'm all aimed up and i hopped on the sled and it shut off. started it again was running on both cylinders than shut off again. i pulled for a while, then let it be and in the meantime, i was gathering info on what to do. i almost had all my info, and my dad went out and tried starting it because there wasn't much daylight left. and what i read to do, he didn't do. Because, he didn't wait for me. So, he pulled and got it started. But, it was running on 1. I shut it off as i got out there. Then, i pulled again thinking one side wasn't getting any gas. Still ran on one. I was gonna let it run on one to see if the other one would kick in and it was smoking really bad, so i shut it off and with the help of my dad, loaded it up on the trailer. We were gonna take them to the dealer this week anyways for a tuneup because we don't have time to clean carbs. But, I wanted to know if there's anything that could've possibly happened. All that basically happened was we ran a sled out of gas. No big deal right? I run my lawn mowers out of gas all the time and my dad has ran sleds out of gas a couple times. Any help would be appreciated

gunk....

My bet is that there was some gunk in the carb bowls. When you sucked the bowls dry anything and everything got pulled into the carb. Some or all of jets are now plugged up with gunk.

If it was running fine before - get the carbs cleaned and you should be fine.....

Yep sounds like jets pugged & have dealer clean & sync carbs tune 700 up so you have baseline on new sled. Be careful Indy that 700 will fly on the big end & midrange not your 500 so respect the new power.:)

You are picking up more than 200ccs & maybe 35+ ponies. Just get to know the sled before you ride it hard as your ride your 500. Do you have a tek vest? If not that should be your next purchase & show your buds saftey first. First guy buys a tek vest then everybody else in your group does the same. The one guy that would not spend the bucks for a tek vest last year was the goof ball in our group that flipped his sled & was too sore to ride & sat around for 2 days in the cabin & could not ride....just groaned a lot & complained. That same day I laid my sled over on a very steep icey hill & got stabbed by my hooks in the ribs but shook it off in 10 minutes & no after effects because my core protector absorbed the shock. I rode & enjoyed the next 2 days & will never ride without protection. Don't mean to preach to you but stuff happens & it will happen much faster on 700 than it did with 500. I caught more air in corn fields that you ride than on Northwoods trails. You just can't see those launch dips coming up in corn fields on low contrast days & the next thing you know you are flying in the air like a snowcross track. With more HP you will be approaching dips much faster & the midrange 700 punch will launch you when 500 didn't. So enjoy your new sled but understand you now have a machine that can run with anything out there old or new & a tek vest will make sure you are in school the next day.:)

whitedust, i ain't got not money left to spend after buyin the sled. All i was hoping to get for x-mas was the matching jacket for the bibs i just got. I guess i'll go ask Santa for a tek-vest too! :)

He's picking up more than 35HP I believe. I think the 500 he had was the Fuji motor, so I'm guessing he's picking up closer to 50-55HP. Have fun Indy_700, but as Whitedust said, safety first.

Your are right Mark I over estimated the 488 HP. Big HP jump Indy!! Ask for tek vest really more important than matching jacket.

Good luck Indy and respect that 700. I had a wildcat 91 or 92 I believe, with the 700 and at 60 without picks she would still break the track loose. After I picked it, at 60 she would still try to pick up the skis! Sorry to say but the guy I sold it to crashed it on his first time out. Nailed it too hard coming out of a corner, the skis picked up and hit a tree. He was ok, the sled was totaled.
