81 Ski Doo Citation Skid Frame Install

We're getting ready to install the skid after changing hyfax, bearings, etc, on a 1981 Ski Doo Citation.

Any tricks on compressing the springs to install? Ratchet strap trick, or removing the spring guides won't work. Springs rest on the tunnel.

Back in the day I had a couple early to mid 70's TNT's. Been a long time. Can't remember how we accomplished this.

Any insights would be great.

The easiest way is to leave the limiter strap disconnected and rear shock. Then hook them up once the skid is in the sled. This was the way I did it to my R/V's and 81 Citation SS.

Now that makes sense. I like easy.

I was way over thinking it. Trying to figure out special spring holders, clamps, etc.

I'm sure that will work great. Thanks.

Got it in! Not as much of a wrestle as i thought. I must say we've come a long way in the past 30 years. Kind of neat working on what was cutting edge back in the day. Makes me appreciate what we have now all the more. Thanks again.

This is kind of funny. You should have read this from the Make-A-Wish sled project thread:

I fought that thing like a bull. I had so much rigging out you would think I was trying to sail a scooner... ratchet straps, floor jacks, screw jacks, blocks of wood, 2x4's. I was even thinking about breaking out the block and tackle-LOL. I finally took a step back and decided to sit and stare at it for a while. After about 2 "sodas" worth of staring and trying to regain my composure, the light bulb finally went off. "Hey dummy, you can't get that arm up cuz the limiter is working against you"!! LOL;)
